Wow... not bad at all.

Hmmmm... I will take comfort in knowing that we probably wouldn't see any here at least until 2007-2008 :D

heheh

"After much speculation, and harboring what was essentially an open secret for a year, SIGARMS anounces the 556 rifle, which will be on display at this year's SHOT Show in Las Vegas later this week."

I'm leaving tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon for the SHOT show! I'll be the un-official CGN reporter.

I think it looks wicked! I want one and for 1300 bucks even better.

Forgetting exchange rate, dealler markups, Tax and all those other things. By the time it gets here its a 2K rifle and not far from a used real deal milspec gun that can be found in our exchange forum from time to time.

And they can't even figure out how to put on the flash hider. God only knows what else will pop up wrong with this gun.

I think this rifle is ugly. Collapsable stock looks good on AR15, but I cannot imagine Sig with anything other than folding stock. There has to be certain aesthetic in design.

The reason collapsable stocks even exist is because of the limitations of the AR rifle. Otherwise you can be sure it would have never even came into existance. This is the 21st century, in which guns can fold AND retract. Collapsable stocks are overrated anyways. Who goes to the range with body armor? If your life depends on wearing body armor then stop using guns designed for civilians manufactured by people with little or no experience in assault rifles.

IMHO FN SCAR will probably be a better rifle then this American born swiss abortion.

If you want to see what happends when SIGARMS USA makes a gun for the US market search the net for reviews of the SIG 1911.

Anyone have any questions they would like me to ask when I check it out? If you can post questions here before I head out at about 3:00PM Thurs. I'll try to get answers for you.

So would I...if the price was identical. However, considering that the 556 will sell for roughly half the price of the Black Special, it's a not a bad deal.

If they can make a left-ejecting Upper, I'd be all for it.

Else, I'll keep saving up my pennies for an AR-15L in good time (assuming McGuinty and Bryant don't get their way).

Toolball, I would appreciate if you could do the following:

1) Take some detailed pictures of the following: SIG 556, HK P3000, HK45 and S&W M&P15
2) Ask HK about the barrel length of the P3000 and HK45
3) Ask SIG if they're planning to introduce a 20" version of the 556 anytime soon (also ask we can expect to see the 556 in Canada)
4) Ask Smith & Wesson about their announced plans to start making shotguns and bolt action rifles

Thanks in advance

There are numerous reasons for the AR15 resemblence , one BIG one is there has to be so many parts made in the US ( 10 i think ) for it to be importable into the states.

thats a moot point. the rifle will be made in the states. no imported parts so no need for that stupid minimum domestic parts rule.

i'm with most people when it come to the stock and the rail. ditch it please. i hope the rifle in the pics is just a mock-up quickly scabbed together...

I just don't get. One of the world largest gun makers, renown for the quality of its products, makes a reasonably priced, non-restricted gun based on a proven design and people think it's an abomination because it accepts AR mags and has a CAR-15 stock?

I guess there's no pleasing some people. If you hate the stock so much, there’s a gazillion aftermarket alternatives out there. And with regards to accepting AR mags – how can that possibly be a bad thing?

I just don't get. An obscure company (Robinson Arms) with little to no quality track record comes out with a gun based on some 1960's design that's been rejected by the U.S. military - twice - and everyone gets excited. Then one of the world largest gun makers, renown for the quality of its products, makes a reasonably priced gun based on a proven design and people think it sucks because it accepts AR mags and has a CAR-15 stock?

SIGARMS isnt Swissarms. SIGARMS is just a company selling guns from a variety of sources under there flag.

I swear I could make millions stamping Lada's with porche logo's.

Not before you pay Porsche millions for trademark infringement. Sigarms is manufacturing the rifle under license from Swiss Arms. And besides, Sigarms' North American-made P22X pistols are of very high quality. There's no reason to believe that the 556 won't be a quality gun also.
