Sig P-226 9mm Good or bad gun.

I am in my third P-226 and I use it for duty pistol competition, many others in CPCA also use it. I have worn out two barrels over the years and I only recall one FTF in my early Classic P-226 because it had collected so much gunk, after ~3500 rounds without cleaning, that the slide wouldn't go all the way forward! They are reliable to the extreme and have great ergonomics. In my experience testing 9 mm's from a ransom rest, they are consistently more accurate at 50 m than most, if not all, out of the box, duty-style pistols. Bang per buck, the Glock 17 and the M&P 9 are better buys but I still prefer my P-226.

I sure like mine, never a single issue with it. I dolled it up with custom Hogue grips in checkered Coco Bola, but then took them off cuz they were too pretty for everyday...I actually was so impressed, I bought a Mosquito, then a 1911 Stainless Carry, and waiting for my P220 Equinox which should arrive by Friday (.45), and figure I'll round it out with a P229 in .40 S&W next year, probably a stainless Elite. You pay more, but its a Sig.

On a side note, sig sauer repair parts are very common. If anything does break, finding a replacement won't be hard or time consuming. Think of the sig as a metal Glock or M&P :) Reliable but metal!

If you do decide on getting one of these p226, consider looking into their elite series as these pistols will come with the E2 Ergonomic grip and the SRT (short reset trigger). There is also the beaver tail which is suppose make the pistol feel more confortable but some people dislike the look (i sure love it). For the price difference and the amount of bonus features you get, its hard to argue with it. I highly recommend looking into the p226 tacops elite. In addition to the features i mentioned, you also get fibre optic and night sights.

I've had one in constant use for the last 6 years with NO problems whatsoever. I have other brands as well but this is all just chevy/dodge/ford debate. The 226 is a goog firearm period.

Ive owned several 226s over the years and shot 10s of thousands of rounds through them and I dont recall a single issue.

Lubrication and TLC go a long way.

I liked mine when I had it... nice trigger in SA, well made, solid, handles well. Holds value well.

Only thing I didn't like was the high bore axis as there was definitely more muzzle flip than my other pistols.

I have four 9mm SIG's. Three 226 and a Milsurp Swiss 220. They are easy to work on; even completely strip down; try a 1911 some timeLaugh2 A good, basic P226 will print three inches at 25 yards. The 220 prints 1.75 off a rest. Oh BTW, it's all metal and the German made pistols are the cat's a$$! The P226 is a purpose built 9mm combat pistol designed and built by Germans; think about it:cheers:

Yes, but the Germans lost both major wars they started in the last century :)

Have one and I can tell you I'll be sure to buy more of those in the future ;)

Try to get the SRT, either with the stock gun or as an upgrade. Truly worth it.

Love my Sigs. They're quality pieces. They're expensive guns, but they're worth it. There's been some flack about them having QC issues lately. I haven't seen it in my newer Sig, but who knows.

They're an excellent gun. There are other good guns out there too. As usual, you usually get what you pay for.

That is funny, heard that often, but nobody has come forward complaining of problems...

But the internet said so "all hail internet!"

The only issues I have seen out of a few hundred SIGs is a bad batch of take down levers and 1 over size rear sight dove tail "no big deal"

SIG pistols are made in Germany (by Sauer & Sons) because Switzerland cannot (not allowed) sell guns.
SIG is originally a Swiss hangun made by "Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft" short name SIG in block letters.

I have one. Nice gun but the aluminum frame makes it light. I prefer the all steel CZ.

The SIG takes down very well. CZ almost as good.

I tried a CZ Shadow the other day and it was fabulous. Perfect trigger and very accurate.

No idea how price of Shadow compares to 226.
