avsecb2 said:No glock for me. I will be buying a sig p226. The Vancouver store started me looking at a Walther P99 tagged at $1250, and I think I saw a blued sig p226 for $1450. So I looked online and saw $550 for the Walther and $700 for the Sig. 20% US/CDN = $660 and $840. Adding $50. for shipping and FFL = $710 and $890. That's a saving of $540 and $610. How much could I hope for the Vancouver dealer to bend his price? 10%? If he reduced price 20%(doubt it), then I'd still save $340 and $290. That's what I get after "doing the math".
Maybe your math has to do with the US gun store that you go to?
Or are you talking used guns? I am talking new guns for comparison sake.
Online, I saw a barely used Sig p226 .357Sig stainless, rail, nite sites with 2 clips, holster, case, lock, etc, for $700 US (my cost to import in CDN = $890). What would that cost in your gun store? Oh yes, you mentioned 9mm as well, I am looking at .40 and .357sig (I think that's more money)
The way that XE.com has it is that your $700 US gun comes out to $826.32 CAD. Who's charging you $65 to import? Questar charges more, IIRC. And, in the event that you do go that route, tell me how you like your pistol 6 months from now, while I shoot mine three days after I buy it from TSE or someone like that.
Honestly? Sure, you can save a few bucks. But, I'd rather spend more and have it faster. I'm impatient.
