Sig P226 - is there another gun?

Hate to disagree but the SIGs outlast the HKs on our range by a large margin.

I was at a range the other day in the US, they had a P226 that I rented, the serial number was U359###, which places it around 1988, it also had the Herndon, VA, import marking on it. So we're talking a 17-year old pistol.

Best score I got was 93-3X, ten shots at 25 yards with PMC 115gr. FMJ on an NRA B-8 25 yard rapid fire bullseye. And this was after I had put 180 rounds through it already, and it was filthy dirty and very hot from doing rapid fire drills with it. (And bear in mind I don't get to use pistols very often).

I spoke to the staff, the gun had been there longer than any of them, and the person working there the longest had been there more than four years, and this was a large commercial shooting range.

So I don't know that the gun has been there for 17 years, but it's certainly been going for a long time.

Impressive, I thought.

Soemone said the gun has to feel right and that is true. There is no "perfect" gun or ""best combat" or "best (fill in the blanks)". I love my 1911's great prven design that I shoot consistantly well. LOve my Hi-Powere, great design shoot them well, LOve my CZ 85 - shoot it well, and would be my favourite except I have an old one with the Euro adjustable sights that likely suit younger eyes better than mine. Don't know if I ever will own a sig - not because of the price, just don't know if they will shoot any better than my other nines. absecb2 not only can you not carry in this great country but you can't use it for home defense either BUT you can clean your guns at 3:00am if you want to. Even That F##K head Roch couldn't come up with a way to take that right away from us. Oh yea I forgot the police will protect us. yawn...

If you shoot the Sig well go for it but I guarantee you it won't be the last gun you buy - not a chance.

I had a
CZ 85 too and liked it a lot, fit my big hands. Time for a new toy and from what I gather, more accurate, and with rail that may come in handy if I need a light to "clean my gun at 3AM"

No glock for me. I will be buying a sig p226. The Vancouver store started me looking at a Walther P99 tagged at $1250, and I think I saw a blued sig p226 for $1450. So I looked online and saw $550 for the Walther and $700 for the Sig. 20% US/CDN = $660 and $840. Adding $50. for shipping and FFL = $710 and $890. That's a saving of $540 and $610. How much could I hope for the Vancouver dealer to bend his price? 10%? If he reduced price 20%(doubt it), then I'd still save $340 and $290. That's what I get after "doing the math".
Maybe your math has to do with the US gun store that you go to?
Or are you talking used guns? I am talking new guns for comparison sake.
Online, I saw a barely used Sig p226 .357Sig stainless, rail, nite sites with 2 clips, holster, case, lock, etc, for $700 US (my cost to import in CDN = $890). What would that cost in your gun store? Oh yes, you mentioned 9mm as well, I am looking at .40 and .357sig (I think that's more money)

The way that XE.com has it is that your $700 US gun comes out to $826.32 CAD. Who's charging you $65 to import? Questar charges more, IIRC. And, in the event that you do go that route, tell me how you like your pistol 6 months from now, while I shoot mine three days after I buy it from TSE or someone like that.

Honestly? Sure, you can save a few bucks. But, I'd rather spend more and have it faster. I'm impatient.

Uh, most people would consider $500 a lot of money off a single pistol. Heck, order one from the US then buy yourself a used Glock to play with in the interim. Comes to the same price.

Sig's are extremely expensive - note I did not say overpriced - but I cannot figure out why their prices are so high here.

So for which one lasts longer, I dount there is much difference. When you are talking 25,000 rounds you would have put a lot more money down the pipe in the form of hot lead than you paid for the gun. Both HK's and Sig's will last a LONG time.

I have a USP with around 10,000 rounds through it this year. Not a whole lot, I know, but it shows very little wear. Some minor marks on the barel hood and the extractor has become a little red. Other than that, I see no reason why it won't see 20,000 without replacing any parts.

My experience has been that I bought a SIG-Sauer fairly early on, spent a ####load of money trying everything else on the market, and eventually came to the conclusion that the SIG-Sauer was the best.

I was looking through my logbook today at all the ####loads of pistols I have owned and the scores I shot with them and the SIG-Sauers came out on top. This includes good stuff, such as the Walther P88 and various H&K models, Sphinx, etc.

Now perhaps the SIG-Sauers fit my hands better than other brands, but assuming when you shoot one it does fit your hand well, you can't go far wrong buying a SIG-Sauer.

Although I should put in a caveat here - the P230, P232 and P239 are not that great, IMO. The trigger reach on the P239 is just too short, although they've improved it on later guns, and the P230 and P232 are simply Walther PP knockoffs that shoot a crapload of burnt carbon up your arm when you shoot them unless you're really careful with your powder selection.

The first SIG Pro models (SP2009 and SP2340) also have a problem, the decocking lever has a sharp edge on it that can cut your hand. They fixed this on the SP2022. (As the French National Police also complained about it).

But they're all banned in Canada so I wouldn't worry about it.
