Sig p226 vs Norc NP22 Clone (9mm)

Difinitely worth the $350. I have an older 100% german made sig, and have shot the NP-22 and it is pretty much the same gun, Except for the trigger pull....My sig has a really sweet trigger. Anyway, Norc is difinitely worth the price,(Though not worth $500 like the one Ad I have been seeing on the EE by one guy who is obviously a rip off artist and is hoping he can get a person with no knowledge to pay him is ripoff price's. I will keep checking to see how many times he has to btt his ad. Sheesh!)

So if you'll never buy a sig why compare it?

I'm not comparing it for the purpose of considering the Sig. I want to know if the clone meets a minimum performance standard and by the sounds of things it does. If someone were to tell me that the only noticeable difference was the finish/grips and I don't care about the finish/grips, that helps me make my decision.

I have had experience with the 226 - two of my shooting buddies shoot them when I'm shooting my G17s. Again, I like the Sig look and design, but would never pay that money if an acceptable clone is available.

If your a professional shooter you will know the difference. The SIG was made with better cuts and is tighter, more accuracy if you know how to tap into it

Norinco NP22 is for just about everyone else. Won't notice a difference performance wise

I totally agree with OP and Mlehtovaara, while Sig made excellent guns but I just hated the way that they handle and their design is interesting, the beaver tail looks funny and unnaturally put together. Anyway brand name loyality and buy North America is not apply to Canada because American government treat us like ####, buy their gun, they made money and not us. Back to the Nor VS Sig, IMO any handgun that sell over eight hundred is way over priced, I use CZ shadow, beretta 92fs/m9, Glock 17 to compare why Sig has to sell over a thousand, the fit and finish is not as magic as people believe and not even better than a 92fs. Norinco didn't have that kind of smoothness but still a good shooting iron.

I worked in a shop that made parts for the Sig.

That being said, I would put my money on the Nork over the Sig any day.

I laugh when I see posts about sig quality. I seen them made, machine shops can't afford actual machinists so they hire students at $12/ hour.

So you would rather see child slave labor in China for 50 cents a day over students working for fair wages?

That being said the first pistol I ever shot was a Norc and I was impressed...I dont think you can go wrong if you can look past the ugly finish ...price point is excellent. I have SIG's but if i ever needed a kick around gun Norc would be it..Happy shooting

I have several SIGs and the Norc clones. One Norc needed a trigegr job. The other was perfect, out of the box.

Both brands shoot and function the same.

the Norc needs Hogue grips, which fit just fine.

Make sure you try the CZ clone. To me the all steel gun feels better.

Don't the SIGs outlast other brands in places that rent handguns and therefore shoot very high volumes. I think I read that here on CGN so it must be true.

Not according to a few recent threads and some quick internet searches.

There are plenty of Sig failures out there, just like any other gun.

I refuse to drink that koolaid because even if they were durable as hell, they still feel terrible in my hand and the muzzle flip is quite a bit more noticeable than most other guns. The position of the slide release is also not good for promoting a high grip on the gun, and can cause problems.

Not sig bashing, just putting my opinion out there.

I really can't say I am a true fanboy of any particular brand, or design so let's not start the Sig vs. other brand game. They all have flaws.

I wrote this in another thread but thought it might interest you.

But a used and rebuilt German Sig is a much nicer gun than a Norinco copy...and the mags are actual Sig mags, not the garbage Chinese mags. This isn't a big deal with 1911s where mags are relatively cheap and easy to come by but with $50-60 Sig mags it really matters.

I bought a German sig recently with minimal holster wear and that's it...internals are mint (not surprising on the CPO guns) with 4 Mec-Gar mags for under $600.

Figure that buying a Nork + 4 quality mags would cost you $550+tax, assuming the mags were $50 each and shipped for free...often the mags are closer to $60 and may not ship from the same supplier as the pistol so could word out to more like $75 once you figure in taxes and shipping...so $300 in mags and $400+ for the Nork after taxes and shipping.

So if you actually intend to run your gun, and therefore need quality mags, the cost difference between a Norinco Sig knockoff and an actual West German Sig - incidentally most serious Sig guys believe these to be the best of the Sigs - is negligible, or possibly in favour of the actual Sig. For this reason I think buying the Norinco version is frankly nuts.

I hear what you are saying, but your math doesn't work for me. I can get Sig mags significantly cheaper and without shipping. As I would likely top at $500 CDN for both the NP22 and mags, that is significantly cheaper than the Sig which would likely start at $1000.

Which is why I'll be watching the EE for any Sigs that are listed below $800.

Where the hell did you get this deal, the EE?

I paid under six for my West German Sig. So you are going to save a hundred bucks to own a chinese knockoff, rather than one of the best combat pistols ever built to some of the most stringent QC requirements ever.

Keep an eye on the EE...I see them go cheap there all the time. Even if the Norinco is passable, it is definitely no Sig, and there is no need to buy a Sig new. That will only get you a US built Sig which are not the really good ones anyway.

Where are you getting cheap Sig mags? I gave my Sig away but the current owner could always use more.

The Sig 226 family is one of my all time favorite designs, but have never owned the real thing...just a Norkie NP58. So per the OPs guidelines, I shouldn't be replying, but I will anyway.

This design has a higher boreline than other semi-autos, well the Glock 17 at least. This is the only complaint I have, because a high boreline produces a higher felt recoil or muzzle flip.

The Glock 17 feels better in my hand, just because of its overall layout. Of course the felt recoil is less in my G17 than the NP58 which is in .40S&W.

you figure $75 for each norc mag?? I paid $30 each new plus tax, plus $20 for shipping (which included the np-22 AND 500 9mm rounds). So your math is really flawed there.

Now if you could actually get german sigs for $600, then there is no question that the norc would not be worth it, but that just doesnt happen very often...

I figure $50 for each quality mag, so if you buy a Norinco for $350, which of course includes neither shipping nor tax, and is less than I have seen them selling for, and four mags, because the Norinco ones are garbage, you are up around $550. That math seems to work out for me, and glancing around I note that $50 is pretty reasonable for Sig mags, so since you have to get all new mags for the Norinco anyway...yes, $550.

I am not anti-norinco at all, but their mags are junk and I wouldn't spend five dollars on one.

All in, including shipping, extras, 4 mags, etc, I paid $600 for a P226 is great shape just a few months ago. It's not that hard.

oh I see what you are saying for quality sig mags, prob the price is right.

However, the 4 "crap" norinco mags I have, have functioned flawlessly for the ~1000 rounds fired so far. Just my experience thought.

I am happy that you got a great deal. I dont see any such deals at the moment. Maybe there will be one in the future but $600 is an exception, not the standard for pricing used sigs.

You can buy MecGar SIG P226 mags 10 rounders @ Marstar for 35$ a piece + shipping.

http://www.marstar.ca/ga-mags/mec-gar.shtm

Those mags are the same as factory mags. In fact, new gun (at least the one I got in 2007) shipped with mecgar mags. They're excellent quality and 100% reliable.

Now, if you're looking for 15/10 pinned mags, be prepared to pay 50-70$ a piece...
