Well, I bought some goodies for my SKS. I wouldn't have normally gone full pimp, but I run a little shooting business in Whistler and take clients out shooting, and I knew they would like it. Here it is:
Pretty comical to bolt on so much extra $$$ gear on a rifle I bought for $75, but the clients seem to think it's cool
So I doubt the Archangel stock does anything to help accuracy, but it looks cool and is comfortable to shoot. the Wartak rail gives a more solid scope mounting platform and the rifle shoots reasonably well. I was just using the little front handgrip/bipod combo thing as a rest and shooting at 100 yards:
There are 3 different scope adjustments on this target. I didn't have a marker with me or I would have written on the target.
What you are looking at is:
Top left:
3 shot group (adjust scope to right and down)
Middle of target, above the X ring. (8 ring), single shot (adjusted scope to hit a little lower)
Center of target. X, 9,8 horizontal string, 3 shot group. Left scope alone after that as I wanted it hitting center at 100
Ammo used is some Ukrainian stuff I bought from Canadammo.
I think this is about as good as it would get. Maybe I could use a better target with a more defined aiming point next time. Maybe I could use my proper bench rest tripod and rear bag. Maybe I could use some handloads. I've got dies but just don't see myself bothering, as I have no great desire to hunt with this rifle. Actually if I was to hunt with it I would put the stock magazine back on.
I'm sure the scope mount isn't perfectly solid, but it seems ok. I didn't do anything to the trigger. It is ok too. I think if a guy wanted to hunt with an SKS all he has to do is improve the sighting system with either a Wartak rail and scope on it, or a rear aperture sight. I think the sights are the key.
