SKS-D or Hical Mag Adapter?

I have a second SKS I don't mind bubbafying, but I'm wondering if the mag adapter is worth the headache or should I just shell out the cash for an SKS-D when one pops up?

Also, for those who got the mag adapter? What do you think of it? Is it made of plastic or metal?

I have been toying with the idea of the new 3D-printed mag adaptor from TNA. But, between the cost of the adaptor, the required mods for installation, and then the cost of a bunch of mags, I just don't see it as worthwhile. The SKS is a casual toy for me, just fine the way it is.

Every time I have "improved" an SKS over the years...I have always wound up regretting it and soon selling it. Then, eventually, I buy another...and usually wind up improving/ruining it.

Gotta break that vicious cycle. My current SKS has a rubber buttpad to extend the LOP, a cheapo red dot clamped to the barrel...and that's it. :)

Don't bother with either. You can only 5 rounds anyway so why bother with a big sticky out thing that does nothing useful and gets in the way.
55recce you clearly have no idea what you are talking about so just sit this one out. ;)

As for the adapters I have been running the Hical adapter since they first came out over a decade ago and it continues to perform 100%.

I did the install by myself and the only thing I had Hical do was cut some M4 style feed ramps into my rifles chamber face to assist in feeding from assorted magazines, luckily their shop is local for me so I didn't have to mess around with shipping.

My bolt has had both sides of it milled down so I can insert full magazines on a closed bolt.

Here is a old video showing how the rifle just chugs along with zero issues.

More recent video and she shoots just fine at 100 yards with a cheapo NcStar 4x which has now been replaced by a 4-12x40 Nikon Buckmaster to make things even better.

I've had a few SKS-D's over the years and sold them all as I wasn't willing to butcher, but I didn't hold back grinding up this Tula refurb to have a detachable magazine 10 round rifle.

I've fired thousands of rounds of mostly surplus out of this rifle and the barrel is still in immaculate condition, but that said I tear the rifle down to every little piece anytime it has ever seen corrosive ammunition.

Wood or synthetic ya just can't go wrong, if you have any other questions feel free to ask away.

its strictly personal. for me, its all about looks. i dont like seeing the adapter and i prefer using AK mags. the bonus is the prices of D and MC5D keep rising.

Thank you for the comprehensive answer! Good to know it's reliable. SKS-D prices are pretty horrific right now, so I'll end up picking up a hical adapter and see if I can find a local gunsmith to do the modifications for me

I pefer the sks-d
There is no modifying, no dicking around and they just work
Ya the price of them sucks balls but so does the price of everything these days

So now I see. The adaptor is $299.99 and currently out of stock. Magazines are $42.99. Then you have to do some modifications to the firearm itself and the stock. Personally it seems to me to be a significant amount of money and work for the extra 5 rounds you get. Also weren't the Liberals talking about banning all magazines that can hold more than 5 rounds (though I see enforcement as impractical)?

SKS-D but only if it has the original stock with the metal insert. The rest with aftermarket stocks are neglectable since most people don't take the time or have the knowledge to make them feed properly.

I got the hical one and like it. Call the store if you want one if inventory shows 0 online.
