SKS field stripping 101,corrosive ammo cleaning, lubrication *updated*

No not yet .Do you normally have to strip the entire gun down in order to remove the gas tube or can it be done in any sequence? Not sure if the previous owner shot corrosive and didn't clean it or what? I'm not sure what I will find ....hope I don't need parts replaced as the bore and everything else is nice.Harold

i wrapped duct tape around the screwdriver blade and used that for leverage.I got it off but it was likely the first time it's been off since it was made in the late 60's.No corrosion just carbon black fouling.Cleaned up nice with CVA Barrel Blaster for black powder followed by swabbing until the patches came out clean then light coat of G96 and more dry patches.Pipe cleaner down the gas port hole in the barrel with Sweet's 7.62 solvent followed by dry one until clean.Bore chromed and shiny.

Reluctantly picked up my first SKS Wednesday from CT. Completely disassembled, cleaned and reassembled last night. Promptly headed to the range to shoot. Great fun, amazing that a 60 year old rifle shoots this well. Going back to CT today to pick one up for the wife.
Big thanks to the author of this tutorial !!!!

Thanks for the great breakdown on the sks, I just stripped and cleaned all the cosmoline of my 53 Tula tonight. Very easy going with the instructions provided here. Shooting it on Tuesday for the first time, can't wait to put some rounds through it.
