SKS market collapse is it true?

Quality is down and ammo prices are up. Prices are now too high ($219 plus 13% at my local CT). Non-corrosive ammo is no longer available at decent prices. Also - you really need to clean them properly if you shoot corrosive (despite what everyone says about using a little windex/boiling water and you are gtg).

The current grades available need to be $150-$175 to sell.
That is the price here, well, up to $199. I have inspected approx. 190 SKS at two different CTC, out of that many I found at least 9 non refurb in nice condition ( I bought 5 ) at one store, 70% were blued the others parkerized, the one store had 150 ish, out of those, about 5 had ugly but serviceable stocks, the rest were nice, One stock in particular was that sanded orange red gross, with 6 repairs,, but it was attached to a blued barrelled receiver izzy that had the nicest blueing I have ever seen, other than that the whole bunch were as good or better than what I have been seeing all along! The other CTC had about 60,I seen about 40 of them almost all were parkerized, there were a handfull that were substandard but the bulk were very nice and crazy tight ( stock to receiver). I got 5 izzys from that bunch and. There were more! The first 150 ish bunch were on for $169. The parked were on clearance/sale for &150. The only difference is these had the Molot export marks on them. Not substandard in my view.
The ammo is going up at what seems to be an unnecessary rate, as we said before, hoping Canam will pull off reasonably priced stuff!

Remember that recent war in the middle East? Where the strongest military force the world has ever known tried to eradicate a rag tag militia group called the "Taliban" over a ten year period........guess what the Taliban still there. It's called gorilla warfare, and it works.

Oh, and SKS's rock.

Different situation. Their is an established police force here that knows were to find you, and if not your family and friends will know where you are. Tracking your cell usage, internet, ext. You can't really expect to successfully over throw a government its todays modern age where you have probably got very comfortable with your life and have given them several ways to track you down.. You'll be caught on camera gassing up, buying food then have your photos posted all over the media labeling you as a terrorist. Every time you step foot in public there is a good chance you will be arrested.

Best case you hide in the woods and face the harsh -40 winters and try to avoid people. Today's world you would do allot more damage with a computer and a fake IP address then with a firearm, Atlest then you can remain unknown.

I have worked in surveillance departments an I can tell you the technology out their is amazing and you wouldn't believe the capabilities of a simple set up. I can only imagine there is technology well beyond what I have used and seen that are spectacular.

Don't fool yourself and think you can go unknown today.

Best thing is to hang out at the local legion, Kiwanis, Lions, etc. Where all the local constabulary hang out.
Get yourself known as one of the good guys.
That way, when SHTF, they'll be asking you for help, not the other way around.

The SKS seems to be one of the most common rifles in Canada. There are about 3 million gun owners in Canada. If a quarter of them owned one SKS each you would be around the 750 000 mark.[/QUOTE
That's news, I thought there were more like 6 million gun owners, gonna have to get more family and friends interested!
Edit, just looked it up approx 7 million gun owners in Canada and approx 1.2 mil. Restricted .
Justine wants to pay attention to us. That is a lot of Votes!

Haha, I just added another SKS owner to our group! I sold one of my 54 izzys to my neighbour, gave him a hundred rounds of ammo to get started!!!

^^^^ That's the new reality for sure

I got rid of everything SKS related except a sight tool. Maybe I can use that for something else. Never understood the hype/sensation after owning and shooting some. They have the lousiest trigger I've ever pulled on a centerfire rifle and accuracy on 100 yards is sub par compared to my semi .22s. I'm just glad that I didn't go the "lipstick on a pig" route and spent a fortune on those more or less useless and expensive accessories.

The sks on the market are not as nice as before and they are more expensive. The market will adjust; in the U.S. People are eager to spend $400 or more on them. There was a time when people would have scoffed at paying a million dollars for what looks like a crack house in Vancouver and now nobody even blinks. Eventually, people will pay the prices ..... It's only like $40 or $50 more now anyways.

where'd you get that number? according to the rcmp Canadian firearms program web site, as of Dec 2014 there was 1.9 million license holders. Somehow don't think we added another 5 million in 18 months even with those guys that never held a license or let theirs expire. I can see 3 million being accurate, but not 7 million.

If you're looking for an sks and cannot find one, you're definitely not looking very hard. Crates of them at gun stores that they aren't selling anymore.
My guess is that surplus ammo going up in price is the key factor. If you cannot shoot it cheaply, most guys won't buy it. At least that is my interpretation of the situation.

Sooner or later everybody who wants one is going to have one. TV sales have dropped a bunch too. For what it's worth, the store everybody loves to hate has moved over 100 of them through online sales alone in the last 2 months or so. If every large seller did that number, that's a pile of guns.
