Yes, thats the name, thanks.
Thanks also to RobertMcC for the find. Great stuff! I have a screencap on my other comp I think. And of his rant re the AK-47 too.
OP, so you had seen the rant before starting your project? Glad you have a great sense of humour and didnt take offence to my comment.
Well, I strongly believe, that the way the gun was designed is the best at that specific time.
I also think that hunting is always better with a wooden stock, because of aesthetics of it. After all, hunting is not about just going for wild meet. It's a philosophy, communication with nature, taking some extra risks, trying to play a relatively fair game compared to when a pig is killed and you just buy its meat in Cosco or something.
Now, I also think that the progress is moving ahead and changing a gun for specific purposes like: experimenting, modifying for the shooting range or preparing it for SHTF, all these may also take place, as long as there is a clear objective why the mod was done.
Having super cool scopes when you just shoot at 100 m on the range and that's it-I do not see the point of it.
If you hunt and your SKS shoots nicely at 200-300 yards and your scope helps-perfect, go for it.
I am going for 1.75 MOA red dot, because it's quite unlikely I'd be able to shoot it for longer distances than 100 yards and roughly 2 inch dot in diameter at 100 yards is more than enough for me.
This is my approach.
And of course-no offence, Chesnokov's comments are interesting, but his philosophy is a philosophy of a gun collector- aka- do not touch anything on your gun, I just partially agree with it.
I have an SKS-totally virgin- nothing is done to it-it is very beautiful the way it is if you enjoy historical and aesthetic prospectives.
