SKS: Optics, sights & mounts.... update feb 16, 2010

So by replacing the recoil lug with your optic mount. Were do you think all the recoil energy of the rifle is going to be directed too? Also whats up with those other 2 side pinching screws used for?
Glad I don't have this on my rig as cleaning up after surplus would be quite a choir.

I feel like they could have found a way to do what they did without making it look like something someone made with spare metal the found in their basement.

What's the maximum scope length you can have with a receiver cover scope mount, before shells start to hit the scope? I got a picatinny scope mount that replaces the rear receiver cover, want a small ~4x scope to put on it. I estimate around 6 inches? Any help appreciated thanks. I don't have a shell deflector or anything.

Does anyone know how I could mount either a red dot or some sort of cheaper scope that kinda fits in with a tapco intrafuse stock without being a complete pita?

Working on a custom mount inspired by the prototype SKS "sniper" rifles. My design is a modified PU mount where the thumb screw is angled at 16° apposed to 45°. Just working out some bugs with the CNC program at the moment. I had a test rig made up and it is quite comfortable as you can get a good cheek weld apposed to a chin weld. It sits 1" off center, but is placed lower and more forward compared to commercial mounting options. Irons and stripper clip guide can still be used.

This is a SKS remember. An offset scope will not destroy accuracy enough to notice. Just sight in at 200 meters. It will only be off by 1/2" right at 100, left at 300 meters, and 1" left at 400 meters; the max "effective" range.

Unfortunately this is designed for the thicker '49 to early "52 receivers.

CSA VZ58 sporter 7.62x39 Looking for help.
The first trip to the range was not good. At 25 yrds new out of the box , iron sights, the point of impact was several inches left of aim point.
So I order a tool for the front sight adustment hoping that it just needed a tweek.
Well im not so lucky. With the front sight maxed out for windage, the point of impact is still 2 to 3 inches left of point of aim. I did not even try it at 100 yrds.
What could be the PROBLEM? do I have to send it in for warranty? I do not understand how it could leave the assembly shop so far out of alignment.

I just added a Predator drill and tap mount to my bubba sks. I had it to the range and test it out and had great results. The built in shell deflector worked great. I just had a red rot to try it out with, but I'm curious to try a full size scope. Here are a few pics....

Surprised you are not getting a better grouping with that. I have better grouping with iron sights. Is there movement in the sights?

I bought the Wartak Skar rail, and it is awesome. I bought it because I didn't want to drill and tread into my gun. Also I don't like the look of the LER scope mounts considering they are so far up. The Wartak rail is so easy to install, and it gives you lots of room for a scope. Another good thing about the Wartak rail is the fact that it has a built in shell deflector, which is very handy if you don't want your scope to get all dinged up.

us ... :)

Have a few gen 1 left at $69.95

Almost out of gen 2 Premium Grade (the best SKS rail built) at $139.95

Well I myself am interested in one of those premium rails. I have a build plan for another SKS. Are there going to be more in production? Do you have any of the colored ones left?

My friend wants one of those small rails that attach only to the rear leaf sight mount though. She likes the stripper clips...

A few of the colored samples are left. IIRC there are two gold, one aluminum colour and possibly a bronze.

I don't know if you will have any left by the time I want to get one. I have a few spare parts to buy in order to eliminate a FTF issue, hoping its just a ammo issue. Nevertheless, its my first priority and it WILL be rectified. After that I would love to get one of those gold ones if you have any left. Bronze would be good too. I've always thought those colors went well with black.
