Sks or vz58?

(quote ztunelover) Vz has a milled aluminum receiver, striker fired mechanism, detachable magazines, is fairly llight and still used today by half decent armies. The sks is cheaper. Buy it is cheaper for a reason. It's not as good.

aluminum receiver? where did you hear that from? it is clearly steel.

You are correct. That's the problem with posting on two different forums. You mix stuff up. I'm surprised I mentioned nothing about variable valve technology in this post haha. You are correct, it is a milled steel, not stamped.

I wonder with the vz58 if you reload can you find your brass. My SKS hides it on me someplace. Still trying to figure out where it all goes. I have shot more expensive semi-autos that were not near what a SKS is.

I have an sks an cz858. SOLD the cz, worked great, but to many people having problems with them, so just a matter of time, before something will happen. If you want the best of both worlds buy a sks-d. Rock solid reliability with a removable ak clips. Price..... Just in the middle of a sks and a vz58/cz858. What ever one you buy, just take it out, have fun, and buy lots of spare parts for your vz/cz lol.

I've owned a CZ858 for years and never had a problem. I've also owed a few SKS' s and enjoyed it the same. The only real difference is the tacticool factor. The CZ it bad a$$ out of the box. I've heard of lot of issues with the CSA VZ58 but not as many as the CZ858.
Try to handle both and see what you like better. You might end up with both!

You're right .
I have a CZ and an SKS and love both .
For me the CZ is lighter and more maneuverable , and I like the mags of the CZ better then the stripper clips of my SKS .
Both are problem free .
Try both and pick the one you like best . If you have the money for the CZ get it . After that , a couple hundred bucks more and buy the SKS too .

With my CZ the brass ends up about four feet in front of me every time . I assume the VZ is the same .

An sks is you are going to keep it as is. If you feel like pimping it out you may as well get an 858.

Wow, yeah, SKS IS ONLY cheaper because there is a MASSIVE stock pile of them, the VZ would be near the same price if that were the case with them. Let me say, SKS's are total tanks, also, dont let chrome lined barrel be the deal breaker between the two, Chinese SKS's are chrome lined, remember that the bore of a chrome lined barrel is slightly larger then a non chrome lined barrel to make room the process of chroming the bore (I am talking a few thousands of an inch here) And thats why people argue chinese sks's are not as accurate as the russian made ones(The advantage of chrome lined barrels are, easier to clean as, and are much better at with standing heat, if you are taking your SKs into battle, chrome lined would be a great thing to have :D)

????? Both my Russian SKS are chrome lined. It's only the first few years production that doesn't have it. Anything Russian dated after 1950 is chromed (maybe earlier, can't remember the exact year). And the Russians had been successfully cleaning corrosive ammo residue from their guns for almost 70 years before chroming came along. They wouldn't have bothered if it affected accuracy that much.

??????wow, I dont think you actually read my post, or are you new to english? By how much did I say it affected the accuracy?(You said "if it affects it THAT much") .... So you agree with me then, chrome lining should not be the deal breaker yes? 1952 is when they started to chrome line, both mine are NOT chrome lined, Nor is my Yugo(and to clarrify, ALL chinese sks's ARE chrome lined) If you are trying to say that a chrome lined barrel and a non chrome lined barrel are just as good as each other, great, good for you, I dont really give a ####, as what I said clearly stated "That is why PEOPLE argue that Chinese SKS's are not as accurate" I didnt say that was my stand point, did I ?. Also, chrome is way smoother then the steel it covers, it does not collect residue in the pores as much(Because it does not have pores like steel does)and it being that much smoother, is easier to send the bore brush through it and it withstands heat MUCH better. Now nowhere did I say they did it so corrosive ammo could be fired through the gun, but, it makes the gun MUCH easier to clean in any case. So, as I said, chrome lined or not, it should not be a deal breaker. The only REAL advantage to chrome lined barrels, are when you use rapid fire and give it continuous heat abuse, otherwise, there isnt much point, as you said yourself, even 70 years ago they cleaned the barrels just fine.

I like your style man! What exactly did you do to the barrel on the Monte Carlo stocked one? Did you just remove the sight and bayonet lug and refinish? That is awesome. I am gonna be doing that with one of mine now lol. Also, how does that grip feel? It looks a bit strange, and never had the chance to fondle one yet.

I read English just fine, thanks. That's why I commented on you saying that the Chinese ones were chrome lined and were less accurate than the Russians because of it. I actually like the chrome lining myself, yes it is easier to clean. I just don't believe it makes much of a difference accuracy wise, and yes it is for durability. I'm sorry you seem to have derived some kind of personal attack from all this. Relax, it's just the Internet.

Yes.... Yes I can... Thanks for clearing that up as I was not sure if I could do whatever I wanted with my rifle.

That fair enough, but again, even the second time around, you did not read the sentence correctly , here, this is the third time, I will break it down
"That is why PEOPLE argue that Chinese SKS's are not as accurate"
"That is why PEOPLE argue"
"PEOPLE"
... Not me, if I believed it made that much of a difference accuracy wise, after everything I said about how the chrome lined barrels only really help in rapid fire/prolonged use and slightly easier to clean (Back to my first point, if you are going into battle with it) Then I would have said to NOT get a chrome lined barrel, but I didnt , I said get whichever one. Do not let that be the deal breaker.
