SKS Shooters "Clean up your Act"

The guys who want to ban the SKS/FMJ/"fast firing" are the same guys that will tell you:

1. Hollow points are illegal.

2. That AR's are prohibited and you are lucky that they are not calling the RCMP...This time.

3. Handguns should be illegal since you can't hunt with them and your not a police officer.

4. Semi automatic rifles are too dangerous and lead to crime - yes I have heard this

5. Skeet/trap/hunting are the only real reason to own a firearm.

6. The registry is GREAT! - who cares? no one wants their duck gun!

7. Anything more then 1 shot every 1 minute might as well be full auto fire, and as such, your lucky the RCMP isnt being called!

8. Will hassle you for not having your non restricted firearm trigger locked and in a locked case - again, watch out or the RCMP will be called. I have gotten this a ton of times.

9. Anything that can take a bayonet is illegal and again, the police should be called.

10. Lee Enfields and any other bolt action rifle MUST be pinned to five rounds or it is indeed illegal and all respects.

As gun owners we are our own worst enemies.

ha ha, sounds like the opposite of my range... i had a senior executive checking out my cz the other day, he saw my 5/30 pinned mag and said "you know, you can fire 30 rounders here..."

seriously though, its important to keep the range clean. when we picked up all the empty cases last spring (steel and brass) we found quite a few live rounds.

To the executive, its usually not only about the safety issues, but rather the club rules, and the rules/demands of the CFO's office.

I personally dont care if people want to shoot in front of the line, or shoot rapid fire. So if no one else is there and the empties are picked up, no ones the wiser.

Unfortunately there is always the risk that someone tattles to the CFO, or that they make a surprise visit. One small infraction of the rules, can get the club shut down for everyone.

Yes the fudds are far worse than Wendy and her goons.

Seriously? Is'nt this a fricken Army town???????? How receptive to "us" are the Eganville crowd?

I've heard that Eganville is outstanding. I cannot at this time afford the place and or the gas to get there so I cannot give a personal opinion.

It is the opinion of people that I trust that Eganville is worth the drive.

I think that would be Galt sportsman in Cambridge. 99% sure...

Well then congratulations, Galt Sportsman in Cambridge, you're officially one of the worst ranges in Canada and a tribute to Wendy's anti-gun crusade.

I just hope that when the day comes that all firearms owners have had their achilles' tendons cut by this range and their ilk, that Wendy doesn't forget to pay them their 30 pieces of silver on their way to hell.

translation...

this thread backfired on me!

"Holy Premonition Batman, the NoPicks are declaring they have kicked your butt and have won this battle"!
"Yeah, Robin, I'm feelin pretty battered so I'm quit'n this fight...I'm so whipped, I won't ever volunteer to pick up after their toys again."
"But, Batman, if you don't clean up their mess, it will get bad and someone will complain to the Mayor of Gotham City. All it will take is for some old Fuddy to slip and the next thing you know, the insurance company will be pulling coverage unless the problem is resolved. Then, the CFO inspector will arrive and tell the Exec they will have to stop the clutter or shut down. So Batman, the Exec will call you and ask you and some other cape'd crusaders to clean up after the NoPics...won't you do that?"
"No Robin, I'm finished with this crusade! Haven't you heard, if you enable an abuser, you become part of the problem! They'll have to look out for themselves!"
"But Batman, I know how that Exec thinks, they will ban all the toys that leave the mess...that will make the insurance guy and the CFO happy....but what about all the Pickers who use the same toys...they won't be able to play either! That's not fair!"
"That's right Robin, sometimes winning a battle makes it hard to understand how you could lose the war."

Have you been there? Are you familiar with the club, it's location, history, circumstances? What would your advice be to an executive that is attempting to keep a range open in an area that has seen at least one closed and another come under heavy restrictions?

Or is the limit of your ability to publicly piss on a group of volunteers who are working to keep a facility open despite the best efforts of a small group of shooters who don't think the rules should apply to them?

So instead of identifying and ejecting the individuals responsible, you(the club) take the politically correct route by blaming the sks and steel cased FMJ.

No matter what you do, there will always be people who ignore the rules so enforment of the rules should be stepped up instead of adding more rules.

Like how hard is this? Print a sign "Clean up you F%*king mess when you are done or forfit your membership."

My suggestions would be significantly better than "ban FMJ."

You guys need to hang your heads in shame for that, there's no excuse for that course of action.

So let's hear them. I'm not a member of the executive just a member of the range who isn't happy about the new rules either.

What solutions would you suggest?

Well, I can tell you my advice would NOT be to "ban" anything, least of all FMJ ammo. Great way to kill all service rifle shooting at your club :kickInTheNuts:

The right approach, if you think one or two bad apples are spoiling the range is to tell the membership to report the na'er-do-wells and ban those morons from the membership rolls. If that doesn't work, put in cameras or something.

You forgot one
11. Shooting silhouette targets are illegal, the police should be called.

So let's hear them. I'm not a member of the executive just a member of the range who isn't happy about the new rules either.

What solutions would you suggest?

Well, here at SPFGA range (Sherwood Park Fish and Game, East of Edmonton), there were some people shooting buck and slugs at the pistol backstops or 25yd line - and the 4x4 posts holding them up - who weren't a) replacing the decimated target boards, or b) picking up their hulls. The final straw was one 'guest' (which is prohibited under our rules - no 'guest' shooting allowed) letting one shot loose when another person was downrange; the shot was at the 25yd berm and the other person was at the 300yd berm as I understand it, and there's no way (geometrically) that they could have been hit... but that's still beyond unacceptable.

The club put in a relatively inexpensive wireless camera system with motion-sensing recording software to catch vandals/'guests' (read: freeloaders)/rulebreakers. Cameras at the gate catch the entry time (and possibly a plate; I don't know what angles they have), cameras catch the bad behavior, and the executive can revoke/trespass if need be. The stupidity stopped, like it had started, almost overnight.

Regarding the pickup of shell casings, there's never been a huge issue at our range - but after the cameras, things have definitely gotten cleaner on the concrete pad. Also, most of us don't mind the fact that steel-cased ammo landing in the mud (when it's wet) forms a sort of "gravel" that makes it much more pleasant to walk in/on when going downrange to check/remove targets.

Also, on our range we are required to openly display our membership cards - with names and numbers visible - while shooting; if someone is being irresponsible, they're easily reported. To my knowledge, it's never come to that.

I'd say that a regulation saying that those not picking up spent shell casings be 'excused' from the range would be more appropriate than banning ALL inexpensive or match ammunition because of the FMJ rule. If there are bad apples, then report the few that ARE bad... painting with too broad of strokes just hurts us all.

JEC, seek professional help. And stay the HELL out of MY range.

LOL.

i find humor in the fact that he put so much effort into what he figured was probably a witty comeback, and i smelled the fail in it after i read half of the first line and stopped reading it.
