SKS, where have you been all my life.

To 350 Mag:
The problem with the SKS is that it throws the brass 2 tables away at the range. This is not very conducive to keeping the brass for reloading. Ejection is rather positive... I have many rifles, some expensive and some not so much. But the SKS is one of my favourites. I kinda like the simplicity and ruggedness of the design. They are inexpensive, but not cheaply made. It would probably cost a pretty penny to manufacture those rifles in present times.

Anyone order one through Cabela’s in the last couple weeks? Looks like mine has been stuck at shipping label printed since the 8th... ordered 3 or 4 days before that... checked my credit card and it looks like they only charged it on Friday... strange...

I had wife and 2 kids out shooting yesterday, brass isn't that hard to pick up and other than a scratch here and there there are no dents so it's reloadable.

I am shooting Geco ammo as it's a little cheaper than PPU but brass looks just as good quality.

If I'm shooting brass, I take the piston out of the gas tube.
It becomes a straight pull bolt action and places the cases gently beside me with no dents.
If hunting, the piston stays in.

So this might sound dumb. Is there going to be a shortage of 7.629x39 ammo in the future? If the sks and type 81 get prohibit (they will) in turn will this ammo fade out on the market? Time to stock up maybe?

Funny how when ARs were available, almost every thread about the SKS always went negative fast; now they are the best thing ever! Funny how that works.

I had mine before I had my AR; I like mine. No complaints. More accurate than it should be for what it is. Reliable, and fully machined! Other than heavy; what is not to like?

Ammo manufactured in China might be scarcer in the future... :(

China has approximately infinite 7.62x39 ammo. As long as there is no new political barriers, it will always be plentiful. There is always potential for import or export restrictions that could through a wrench into the system.

My brass is coming out fine for a semi-auto....just getting my Hornady LNL ap dialed in so far so good.

First load I tried functioned fine.

I know a great site that is all about sks's. I am just not sure if I am allowed to post the link here. Would someone that knows if that is allowed let me know. Thanks in advance.

I've three of these lovely rifles, two Russian and one Chinese. The Chinese one has a trigger that's far nicer than it has any business being.

Get yorself a Caldwell brass catcher. I finally did and it saves the back once it gets set up right. I reload my cast Lyman and Lee bullets for the gun. The Lee will out shoot the factory by a lot. My recent SKS is a Russian and shoots just as well as my former Chinese offering. Great gun I use as a truck gun. up here it might come in useful. I also have a antique .41LC. At ranges inside of 15 yards it is capable.

Take Care

Bob

ah ah there is few people that have said here sks were better than ar and where crucified ... you re pointing the obvious that shamely a few have seen ...

I have an undisclosed number of these rifles in various configurations, or not. I may or may not thoroughly enjoy the platform. Ammo price is on the rise, buy cheap stack deep.
