Smith and Wesson M&P my opinion

Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to write this review. I know it took a bit of effort what with the pictures and such. we appreciate it.

and yes, I still like this HG very much.

I ordered 4 from S&W directly....they have a 25% off with a promo code so they're around $30 USD. I have been waiting over 2 weeks as I think they are in high demand. At that price I'll wait.

Well this thread made me look. Very nice in many respects. The magazine, cut off short and that hideous follower is suspect as others have said. The controls should stick out more. Overall, I'd probably opt for a P99, but the new Cherokee is my fave.

Good review.

As a Glock owner I was impressed with the ergonomics of this pistol. It feels more comfortable in my hands than the Glock. I really like the interchangable back strap.

I also find the trigger release far superior to the Glock.

If I was buying another 9mm I am certain this pistol would be on my list.

It looks like S&W have a winner, nice to see after the disaster with the Sigma.

Currently working on a review for Canadian Shooting Sports magazine. This is a really nice pistol, feeds and functions like a Swiss watch, very accurate, nicely made, low recoil, very easy to shoot well. I like this one a LOT!

Excellent review

I really enjoyed your review on the M&P as you have a definite flair to writing about what is obvious to the reader you are a pistolero.I too have been debating the purchase of one of these in the '40 but to this day still have very little hands on with the "plastic shooters" as I still have not bought any of them my being more of a traditionalist leaning towards the 1911's and more conventional wheelguns.I'm still wrestling with the idea of a plastic gun and may never make the move as I'm not in law enforcement nor do I feel undergunned with the conventionals.Guess I'm just not sold on them yet but do have a yearning for a 40 S&W after shooting 10MM's in Delta's since their intros.I absolutely love the 10's and thinking more towards the Browning Hi-Power as the preferred avenue.Decisions, decisions! Maybe you have a future in gun writing as you seem to enjoy the why's and how to's about shooting in general. Thanks for an excellent review.

There is absolutely no reason to quote the whole first thread. It just adds length for the thread, his bandwidth is used more because the pictures are loaded twice per page. At LEAST remove the image tags so the pictures don't show up.

Great review of the M&P. I still have not handled one so I have to go up to Target Sports to get my fondle on.

Great review!

Goober,

That is an EXCELLENT review you did on the Smith M&P...including lots of very good pictures. :)

Thanks for your efforts, Jeff/1911.

I got to shoot one about a week ago... it felt okay as far as ergos go and it was comfortable in the hand, but that's about it. I wasn't crazy about the trigger and just the overall feel of the gun.

Then again, I sold my XD9 recently and I'll never buy another plastic-fantastic in my lifetime so my dislike of the M&P is really just an overall dislike of plastic guns. Back to 1911s for this guy!

My apologies for quoting the first thread on a repeat as I was unaware this would result,I'm still somewhat a newbie here and will try to not make that mistake again.

Man o man. As if I was't desperate enough to try out my new M&P40, some of the comments here have me dancing.
No way the gun is that good.
  ;) :D

it uses a standard browning lock up, so the "rotational recoil" would be no more or less than any other pistol of similar weight.

Top heavy...?
Uncomfortable grip...?
Terrible, rotational recoil...?

Compared to which other make/model of pistol, exactly?

Must be compared to his handguns listed on his post:

-My Collection-
Norinco NP22 - Norinco NP30 - Colt 1911 mf 1915 - Erma .22 Luger

It's just such a terrible feeling gun

the frame is lightweight, the slide is heavier, so it's top heavy and unweildy.

and yes, due to this unbalanced weight, the recoil instead of raising the gun, makes it sharply rotate rearward and up.
And I'm comparing this to every other handgun ive ever used, 1911s, sigs, 686 revolvers, CZs, etc etc etc

I thought it was a very neutral non rolling gun to shoot. Trigger is ok. ONly negative might be mag price and durability. Was impressed with grips and pointability.
This is a good solid pistol for the money. Ergonomically superior to the XD. ;)
