Just put the first 100 rounds of 40S&W factory loads through it the other day,the load being Winchester's 165 grain MC,$150.00 + taxes for 500 rounds and must say for a stock service pistol to shoot as well as this one did makes me a very happy camper. The real selling point for this pistol is the revoveable backstrap to accommodate varying hand sizes and S&W has done it's homework here in spades. The ergonomics of this pistol really work for me as my hands are on the smaller side but the reverseable mag button, the ambidextrous slide release and the mag disconnect safety all make for a very well thought design.Although there will be some detractors to the mag safety, namely L.E.O.'s ,I think all in all it's a great design that handles the 40 cartridge with ease as it's definitely not the same power level to that of the 9MM and I personally am gratefull for that as the 9 ' is a great cartridge also but it's not a great defensive round as been proven time again. This platform is a natural for the '40 and will be a great positive for the M&P sales.I just hope that the criminal element out there will not realise this at all too soon or ever for that matter as it's a great tool for the L.E.O.'s and rightly so,legitimate owners and law enforcement only should have these great pistols. My specimen handled and funtioned without a hiccup and digested some handloads quite well also as it's not a very finicky cartridge any more than a 9MM,10MM or a 45 and I've loaded for all of the above for some 30 years now.Autoloader cartridges will function properly provided the handloader uses appropriate components. My hat's off to S&W for a great gun that will no doubt continue to sell very well. Now I have to convince the wife SHE needs one in 45.Wish me luck!
