I finally got around to needing to open my crate of Czech milsurp ammo I had lying around. I had meticulously prepared the day I would need to open this by reading many fascinating CGN threads on the subject. Some involving:
- brute strength (Clammy!
)
- blowtorch (not sure, but a runner-up to Darwin most likely
)
The seller of said ammo recommended I use vise-grips and open it like a sardine can. Since I am a girlie-man, this approach seemed doeable for me.
So here is a photo-documented opening of my first crate of milsurp ammo
Requirements:
============
- vice-grips
- permission from the wife to set the crate on the kitchen table tablecloth
STEP 1: set crate on work area and open
STEP 2: unfold rings in corners
STEP 3: lock vise-grips firmly around base of one of the rings
STEP 4: start rolling towards other end
STEP 5: repeat in other direction
STEP 6: repeat once more for third length
STEP 7: admire the nearly opened crate, and wonder why they did not put a fourth strip to roll??
Then used the vise-grips to tear off the last seam
STEP 8: finished! Good as new. Not bad for ammo a year older than I am
I chucked the tin once I got the top off, a helpful soul decided to put his hands in there and within 10 seconds managed to draw blood
So I decided the best place for the remaining tin was the garbage. I re-packed the crate without it for safer future withdrawls
You would not want to leave a blood trail from the ammo crate if the zombies were ever to come'a'knockin
In any case, I guess since this one is open I had better start looking for its replacement!!!!! CanAm, any news?
