So, in the end, how did Covid 19 affect your hunt?

The bush was busier than normal this year. Lots of guys with more time on their hands than normal I suppose. I wound up filling 4 big game tags because I had the time to do it myself, although the black bear I shot delivered itself into my back yard so that was kind of a gimme.

One guy straight up didn't come this year. His wife works at a hospital and they were starting to get a few cases in the staff, so he had to bail. He told us as soon as he knew he wasn't coming.

I had to take an exam on Tuesday for a class I was taking (straight in the middle of hunting week!) and I didn't know if I could come back to town to write the exam nor if I would be allowed to come back in the woods either (there were talks of maybe using roadblocks).

My FIL and I still went. Setup camp on Friday and tagged a moose at lunch on the first day of the season (on a Saturday). We chilled in camp for the rest of Saturday, grouse hunted on Sunday and packed and left on Monday. That way, I could take my exam from home.

An unusual season to say the least. I ended up missing hunting too much (we were there few but a few days), so I ended up taking the kids with me 2 weeks later to go grouse hunting with them!

Also went deer hunting, but as usual, didn't see any shootables (just a doe).

I declined to join buddies on a wall tent mulie hunt and also decided to do no late season huts as health authorities requested we not travel from my home area to others.

I,m nearing the end of my career road in my work . So combined with being off two months due to covid , being the only employee and an employer that likes to F with my hollidays and being back part time days probably till next summer ??. I lost out on my deer hunting time off due to b s over hollidays . 1 year 11 months 2 days to go LOL

Reduced our hunt to two people and we still bagged our bull moose!
My hunting partner also got his biggest bear, first 4 point mulie and first 4 pt white tail all this year.

Only real effect was that it was a little harder to find a place to use the washroom while on the road. I drove through many different communities from southern to northern BC and it was interesting to note that some were covid crazy- like everyone walking down the street in masks and many businesses with self imposed restrictions- like take out only and you can't have a leak in their bathroom. Other communities you could barely tell anything was different.

There's a farm near me that, as rumour has it, supplies Pelee Island with their birds for the hunt. They had tons of birds in the enclosures and there was still a bunch there a few weeks ago.

I wonder what they did with the birds?

There is a game farm near where I hunt who’s in the same boat. I’m sure if they cant sell birds for hunts, they will sell live birds and/or frozen birds. Maybe the next Pelee hunt have older birds running around

Here in Canada, zero effect. I ended up eating my Montana deer tag, no refunds for that pricey bad boy. Wyoming deer, antelope and two antelope doe tags were returned to Wyoming F&G in the hopes that they approve my sob story for a refund... Overall, I held on to very expensive pieces of paper with no chances to hunt them...

Spring bear, fall bear, fall deer no big changes except no eating in restaurants when driving up and back from camp. Wife made me quarantine for 2 weeks upon return from each trip so in those 6 weeks I did a lot of reloading!

If you don't mind me asking what does a deer tag cost for Montana?

Actually made my season better. Mostly all alone in the woods except the week hunting with my son. Closed border allowed me to check a western Alberta Mule deer hunt off the bucket list just before the wheels fell off the COVID wagon in the west.

In Canada; ran my spring and fall traplines and picked up a few bears. Took my daughters out for mule deer in some crazy deep and early snow. Whitetail accessible only by snowmobile; where I was. Chased moose around in BC. By and large it never made any difference at home.

Internationally was a total write-off.

As owner of my camp I made up a list of protocols. It included ; covid -19 test before we left, hand sanitizer @ front door, avoid physical contacting, sanitizing the
dinning table before & after use. Maybe more should have been done but @ least there was something. Nothing done is being NOT responsible, I think.
