So, is the RFB all that we thought it'd be?

New RFB parts

Is there any way someone could possibly post pics of the old versus new parts? And where do I go to order my RFB? Is there only one distributor?

Thanks again to everyone who posted, I've learned so much about this awesome rifle!

WTH?? That's COMPLETELY different than mine - the weldments on mine are halfway back on the bolt carrier; there are no weldments at all at the forward end, nor is there a spring of any kind between the bolt carrier and gas piston. What is the purpose of the spring between the gas piston and the bolt carrier? Did they re-engineer this entire section??

I thought it was the weldments for the dual recoil springs that were the problem? Do the recoil springs now carry forward, all the way to the front of the bolt carrier? Or is mine unusual in that they are attached halfway along the length of the bolt carrier? Strange.

Read the thread from the beginning as well as all my other posts regarding RFB's.

The pics are of the 2nd generation designed to fix the design problems.

Rest easy - When yours breaks Vault is equipped to update.

Yep, I had read your other posts, but this is more than an upgrade, it's a complete redesign of that entire area of the rifle. Wow.

Edited to add: Found this over on the Kel-Tec owner's forum that sort of explains the difference. It really is a completely different design:

I'm waiting to get my.bolt carrier back is the gas block a different design or does it reuse the same one

Hmm... Now that folks are 'finding out about this'... I am glad that I didn't send my RFB off for barrel threading & thereby voiding my warranty...

Cheers
Jay

Any idea if we can get the replacement parts upgrade even if ours aren't acting up? The last thing I want is the welds to fail while out in the bush.

I still think that whole "threading the barrel voids the warranty" a big pile of crap. Yep...mines threaded (by Dlask) so if my welds break I'm pooched apparently. We'll see about that...but thankfully everything is A-OK so far.

I'd have to agree with the threading being BS. The American RFBs come threaded and I can't see Keltec screwing around with their reputation over a threaded barrel.

The desert storm versions are threaded by Dlask and the warranty is not violated. I would think if you had a black one and Dlask threaded it you would have a case for an intact warranty.

Ya.. I don't like the idea of having to wait till my rifle craps the bed before known issues get fixed.

I just called Kel Tec and they told me that the piston will fall out on the 2nd generation ones when you disassemble it . Also start at +25 to set the gas.

Apparently the upgrade works with the original gas block. I'm told the new piston doesnt use AR gas piston rings. I'm not 100% sure but I think the redesign works with the old piston and gas adjust knob.

Remember the M16 design problems when first introduced ?
Now look at it.

Its good that KEL-TEC is adressing the issues.
