So where are we now?

Reading this thread is depressing. I wish firearms owners and enthusiasts could rally around some common sense, intelligent ideas in a campaign to take advantage of the fact that this is a weak minority government and with a sound, coherent message we could do a lot to move the needle in our direction...Instead this thread is filled with moronic, wing-nut, extreme right-wing conspiracy theory nonsense. It’s ####ing embarrassing for the firearms community and depressing for our cause. With friends like these...who needs enemies.

Lol... yep... all that's been missing is a rational message and the anti gunners and media will see the light...

Really...
Your hypothesis is totally irrational emotional people will somehow understand.... think about that for a minute...

16 voting age bc residents in my house for dinner tonight and 1 from alberta…
3 from Vancouver/surrey area and the rest from the interior.
I simply told everyone at the table that I was from this election on , a committed western separatist.
The response was quite surprising with most of the group completely agreeing.
Interestingly enough only 4 of the adults present are firearms license holders.
just thought I would share fwiw.

I think the best bet is to push provincial governments to not play ball with any knee jerk legislation Trudeau and his pals roll out. They have the backing of the beautiful people of Montreal and Toronto; that's all they really need.

I used to have high hopes for Jason Kenney but now I worry about him, a lot. His committed federalism is just a green light to Trudeau that whatever he does is OK, and all Kenney will do is stomp his feet, maybe threaten to hold his breath until he passes out. Trudeau and the LPC will just do whatever they want. I actually worry that Kenney could now throw gun owners under the bus in an attempt to show Trudeau that he's willing to work with him and make concessions.

I don't think there's ANY negotiation possible with Trudeau et al. They're ideologues, and not driven by common sense or facts. It's all emotion-based, and anything they can do and then trumpet that they're so much better than the United States they'll do whether it makes sense or will make any difference at all.

Gun rights are the canary in the coal mine.

If you want to see where a country is in 20 or 50 years, see what they are doing with guns right now. Because, inevitably, erosion of 'inconvenient' rights such as gun rights and free speech lead to the erosion of the rest.

To me, this is about more than a hobby or someone's job (though those are important). This is about where we're headed as a country.
Yea--no, gun rights are not an indicator of that. Social, political, and economic equality and stability have a much greater effect on quality of life than whether a minority of people (and it is a small minority) can own guns. People here live and breath guns, so they think it's important, but it really isn't for the vast majority of people and a minority of citizens owning guns in a stable democracy isn't what stops governments from becoming authoritarian. HDI and IHDI rankings (as well as other QoL rankings) are dominated by countries with the Nordic model. Those countries also have strong gun control.

People don't vote for or against anything gun-related. Well, no one other than a few dozen people on this board, and a few dozen gun-grabbers. It's not an election issue for 99.9% of the canadian population. So whatever happens to your ARs will be decided during an election during which almost not a word will be spoken about ARs, one way or the other.

What will decide which party will take power (and at the same time, what will happen to your ARs) will be climate change, women's rights and pipelines. So, if you want to keep your ARs, you better get interested in those subjects.
Bingo.

Very well said.

Let us know the message that will convince people like Wendy and Heidi so they will understand... since apparently no one has tried that yet and it's all right wing conspiracies.

You know.... because they have a rational approach to firearms...

Why? No one will be convincing them anyways so why try. Focus on the people you have a chance with. Your wasting your time.

Lol.

So the theory is we need to convince people that dont care about firearms...

Do you not think the media being in bed with groups like poly hurts us more then a rational message that has been tried many times before but somehow that is a new tactic... mmhmm

I'm curious on what this proposed rational message is that you guys think will work...

Must be revolutionary....

The firearms community is wasting there time trying to change the minds of the extreme opposites like Wendy et al. There is nothing that the firearms community will do to change her mind. The people in the middle should be the focus. Show them what firearms ownership is about, get them to range. Its unfortunate you dont see this.

This thread is full of "wendy" types but just at the opposite end of the spectrum. Thankfully it does not represent the majority of firearms owners.

Lol... because none of us take people to the range... my god...

Ths is the state of where we are at...
Ideas that 90% of us already do...

Sigh....

The CCFR is trying and they are branded the NRA of the north for fearmongering purposes...
But once they get that message... then the media will be fair and rational in its reporting...

The majority of people do not, Cdn Gun Nuts is a small minority of firearms enthusiasts. Good luck trying to change the extremists with your extremist views. I provided only one example btw.
