So who's taking out the old Enfield for the up coming season

I just acquired a sort of sad looking #4 with the name "Sussex" on the 21 inch barrel, meaning it was sportserized in an armory in England. Sussex is said to be the better quality of some other names used.
Anyway, I cleaned it up and the 2 groove barrel looked great.
It has the best looking scope mount, a Weaver, I have ever seen on a Lee Enfield. I had no idea they made such a mount. The scope just has to be useless, a fixed 4 power of probably more than forty years vintage, a Japanese name on it that no one ever heard of.
Anyway, just tried it out. I used some old CIL Imperial 150 grain, to match the overall vintage. Put up an aiming mark at fifty yards and two bullets landed less than an inch apart! Tweak the sighting just a bit and one could hunt any game animal in Canada, with confidence.
Well, maybe I would want to fire some more to see if the scope is still standing up, but it sure indicates it is.

I believe every Canadian should have at least one Enfield and one Cooey (made before Winchester took them over). And they should be used as often as possible for hunting. It's our heritage...

Here is the scope mount I mention above.
Is it just me that has never seen one like it before?

"everyone should one at least one Enfield" someone said.
Then the thread is "Who's taking out the Enfield for the upcoming season?"

My question is...which one should I take?

three P-14s. The top two are reamed out to .303Epps. Just got them back today (planned for upcoming Elk Hunt (esp for the wife, not that her .243 won't do the job, just feel better with one of these in her hands, that is, IF she can shoot them without a flinch.)

top, 1945 No, Mk1 (With a "0" bolt head that headspaces if you can believe that!!)
Middle, 1943 LB No4, Mk1*
Bottom, No 1, MkIII. (the rifle my kids all learned on since it had been severely cut down for the previous owner's petite wife. Once my youngest son grew up, he decided that the stock didn't fit him anymore so he decided while I was away on tour, that he would help himself to an ATI stock I had kicking around. Unfortunately, it was for a No 4, but he carved the forestock up anyway so that the "no gunsmithing" stock would fit, THEN discovered that the trigger guard would not fit it. He also threw away the butt.)

My first "RIFLE". A very nicely sported 1898 Lee Enfield Cavalry Carbine. This rifle LIKES heavy bullets. Much to my consternation when I first began reloading and didn't know anything about bullet weight/twist rate.

After last year I was planning on taking out my Jungle carbine this year but have picked up another new rifle so i'm thinking I need to try out the new one. Maybe next year.

My enfield #3 (model 1914) is always my back up; its been in the family now for 3 gernerations. The one time I didn't take it out hunting the bolt handle sheered off my new remington putting a quick end to that hunt.

The only issue with the enfield is that my father shaved the front site post down to much. so finding the right "hold under" is very hard at various distance.

Going out in the boat on the Hudson's Bay in approx 1 hr to go hunt Beluga Whales with my 303 ... :D Cheers,

I bought a No. 4 just a few months ago for the specific purpose of putting a deer down with it; I'm getting stoked for this (my first) season.

I am planning to take the No.5 out again this year. She has a bit of a "bad luck streak" going tho: I see every animal possible when I'm out with it except the one I have a tag for!!! Last year I took it out for shooting a whitetail buck and seen: whitetail does, mule does, mule bucks, cow moose, calf moose, bull moose, black bear, coyote (outta range), beaver, porcupine... and every bird immaginable native to this area.

Nope, didn't see any Unicorn. Woulda shot that one for sure :D

Recently picked up a Parker Hale No.4 Supreme for this fall's outings. Had it out for a test drive today with Federal blue box 180gr. ammo and put 5 into a bit under 2" with the iron sights at 100yds. Looks like I found my ammo for this fall and I don't have to worry about load development until next year.

Will also be taking out my Garand, K31 and M38 for various days:

I must admit that I'm looking for a new/ old .308 ( Winchester Model 70) but if I dont find exactly what I want I'm breaking out my Lee Enfield for deer. Reliable, and its probably killed the odd Nazi or Jap.
