My Picatinny folder with sling and 5x Magazines arrived today in good order. The Burris RT-6 seems well-suited to this particular platform. The fit and finish, particularly the internals, are (happily) far better than my earlier experiences with Norinco products.

My Buttstock's Plastic Plates are a very close colour match to the Dark Red/Maroon Wooden furniture stain that they used:

I have quite a good resilience towards the workmanship of those fine products. It is a bit of a joke really. I guess I have to attack it with my wood chisel and metal file.

But I agree that the handguards should match.

It looks good to me, I have all 3 of the original T81 offerings and love to shoot them. It is a semi auto version of a mass produced army rifle, not a $10,000 Merkel. What the heck were you thinking you would get, people need to manage your expectations.

How's the mount alignment? Is it as canted as some of the other pictures posted on here?

Looks great, I'm waiting on the same setup with a pic mount folder. I was going to use a similar scope but seeing yours I gotta wonder now how the ejecting cases are going to play with the distal end of the scope.

With enough money, would it be possible to create a levered dust cover Picatinny mount for the Type 81, like the modern AKs in the below Garandthumb video? I would assume you would need to start with a straight receiver :p

All you guys complaining about mismatching colours and such: you should be seeing this as an opportunity to do some unique modifications and make the rifle your own...

I bought a T81 bayonet and am painting the handle black because the original colour doesn't match the wood stain. And I'll probably do the same for the stock plates! You can do this too. And the rifle will feel even better in your hand because you made it your own.

Anyways. I'm 1261x. I can't wait!!!

(BTW I took this picture after the first coat. It's drying now but the colour is much more even.)

I think that the optic will be OK, provided that the ejection is oblique rather than vertical. If empty casings do ding the objective end of the optic I will swap it out for a mini or micro red-dot that will sit further back on the Pic rail. There are plenty of alternative options. A short, fixed-power Prismatic sight also fits and works quite well while avoiding the ejection path for empty casings:
