wouldnt that make it a semi automatic action??

No, that just makes it a spring-loaded or spring-assisted action similar to a folding knife.

A semi-auto action uses gases (using a piston in DI, long or short-stroke) / back pressure (blowback designs) to cycle the bolt backwards when the trigger is pulled, with the recoil spring acting as both a mechanism to slow down the bolt carrier travelling back, and to return the carrier back forward.

If you pull the trigger on this design, nothing will happen with the bolt since you have to pull the bolt back manually to chamber another round.

Ah,

so it's a manual pull, then the system puts the action back into battery. Ok, got it. :)

So, it's a quarter-automatic.

Love it....honestly. But it looks like it could kill people. We have to start making designs that look like pillows... Or sponges or something....

Is there a technical or legal reason that the bolt can't/won't be returned to battery by the buffer spring after manually cycling it back? Or similarly with a last round hold open? Seems a little thing to retain something of the AR feel/ergonomics a lot of people are familiar with. For me at least, these features would significantly increase the need-to-buy factor.

That being said, this is a great fallback for a worst-case outcome to the current situation.

There’s no buffer spring. The buffer tube doesn’t line up with the bore to keep it from even being thought of to convert to semi auto.

It's not by accident.
They're intention is to make this a true manual-action receiver.

They have intentionally left out any springs, or even a place to put a spring.
The buffer tube hole is a blind hole. And it's intentionally not lined up with the bolt.

They're doing all of this to make this gun as difficult as possible for someone to ban.
And under the circumstances; I hope everyone can appreciate that this is their prime directive.

Unless they go full NSW and ban via cosmetic appearance

I get the idea behind this and as much as I would prefer spring assisted, I'll accept this spring-less mechanism. However, looking through the viciousness of recent OIC, there is nothing to stop the current regime to make up a reason to ban it. The people in power combine moral values of every single dictator on this planet.
