Sporting clays, trap, skeet difficulty

Shot a 26/50 on sporting clays and 23/25 on trap last time out with a 12 gauge wingmaster with mod choke. Did very poorly on 5-stand though, missing birds from shooting gun up and also not familiar with the variety.

Practice makes perfect or at least close someday. Sporting and 5 stand take a memory of known targets and leads etc... Dont get discouraged it takes a bit of time and different routines. What you do before your shot while the person in front of you is shooting is almost as important as when you shoot. Stand behind him and take notes in your head where you need to start your gun and where you want to break the target. If you do that you will be more prepared.

Tried Trap a while back and thought I did ok. Average 16-17. Skeet 5-6, 5 Stand 5-6. with a Fabarm O/U. Gave up but thinking I might try again. Sold the Fabarm and in the market for a shotgun. Love the idea and look of an O/U but seem to shoot semi auto more naturally. Have a chance to buy a CZ Redhead O/U 12ga from a friend but afraid to in case it doesn't fit me. Talked to several shooters about fit and I still can't figure out what fit is. Length of stock seems ok but line of sight still confuses me. Every shotgun I raise to my shoulder, I still have to bring my head down in order to not see any rib. Thought I had to leave my head up and bring the gun up and no rib should be showing. Still confused. Any ideas? thanks

A little crude and no replacement for proper fitting, but will get you in the ballpark. Everybody talks about fit but even some experienced shot gunners can't really explain it. They just know if it fits or not when they pick up a gun.

That is fairly typical, and is a good indication as to the difficulty of the various clay games.

OK. Bought the CZ Redhead. Shot Trap twice. 1st time 2 rounds and did terrible, like maybe 8/25. Second time 2 more rounds and did much better 18/25 and 17/25 but cheated and only shot from position 2 and 4. First rounds I tried not aiming just letting the gun follow my line of sight. Didn't work. 2nd rounds I actually aimed and did much better. Watching too many Clays videos. Afraid to burst my bubble and try Skeet.
