Yey, got a draw for a grizz. 1st time ever. (1st time in 8 years of sending the leh tickets  )

Oh yeah, in region 6-10, Kitimat, etc. should be nice.

Anybody know the average size of grizz up there?

Small boomstick, since i sold my .338 :( I will be using my .300win mag. I figure with a good bullet, like the nosler partition or barnes-x, there should be enough energy there to break shoulders, and then worry about a follow up shot.

A friend knows a few guys who live and hunt in this exact area, so at least i will not be going blindly into the woods.

I do not have a boat, but i figure there should be lots of places that don't actually require a boat.

Thinking of heading up there in the 1st week of may, I think that is a good time to find a bear with a nice coat on it. I will also buy a black bear tag, just in case, since there are some nice blackies up that way also.

I'm just really happy that after trying for so many years i'll finally get a chance to hunt grizz; after looking through some guide outfitter websites it's nice to see that a the cost of a dream hunt is $80, lol. Well not counting all the other necesseties, just the tag ;)

I'll keep this post alive for the next few months :D hopefully in May i can add some pics to it, keeping fingers crossed.

No you certainly don't need a boat olek, just another option.

I think a 300 Win mag with a warmly loaded 200gr tsx would be a good bet. Or, you could celebrate this momentus event with the purchase of a big assed bear cannon :D :D

Yeah.... I could buy a cannon, but honestly i think a well placed shot with a good bullet should do the trick. I mean all my kills with the 300 (since i started hunting 9 years ago) were 1 shot drops.

I like the rifle 'cause i know where the bullet is going to hit.

Should i get lucky enough to see a grizz, I'll try to go for a 100~150yd shot. That should be enough power to drop it (blow its shoulder(s) out...)

btw Salty, do you know that area or ?? just curious cause it's a long drive and any additional info is appriciated.

For sure 200-220 gr, great cal, will work fine , I would look at a RN, chances are good you will get a close shot , but one never knows. You got it all covered. Would certainly want a backup guy with slugs, or a 375 H&H or bigger. :D

Well I will have a buddy with a beretta xtrema 2, loaded to the tits with slugs... lol :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

or maybe a 10 shots of .45 would do, you know for wilderness protection :runaway: ;) :p

Well the last time I was there I was 13 yrs old and thats 33 years ago so I'd have to say not really :D But the central coast is the same kind of country/ecosystems throughout (me being a little further south). Long huge inlets (Kitimat's at the end of one) with a lot of rivers emptying into them which I'd check out the estuary areas of these if you can get to them  Other than that its steep rugged country. Get ahold of the forestry maps!

OK, you are in for a BIG surprise. 6-10 is not anywhere near Kitimat, it is on the south side of the Skeena river between Terrace and the mouth of the Skeena river. I suggest that you look at last years Hunting Regs for the map of the Skeena region.

The Griz there are pretty big, I don't have a boat or access to one but I have had some reports. A boat will be a MUST. There is some road access on the very eastern part of the region but most of it is only accessable by boat.

The fishing is great! And the secenary spectactular.:)

Good luck, it is a pretty good area with the Gitnadoix River Rec Area in the middle of it. Not sure about hunting in the middle of that.:D
