Springfield 1911 question

I have an older (2005 ish?) Springfield Mil-Spec and a Sig 1911 XO. First; The Springfield Armory Mil-Specs are about as basic as it gets for features; low GI sights, trigger is okay, and it has a GI grip safety. (It's angled downwards). The Sig 1911's have a beavertail grip safety, taller contrast sights, and a long style trigger that is slightly nicer. Both have been equally reliable, build quality is a bit better on the Sig. It's personal preference, but you may find the Mil-spec a little underwhelming. I didn't find the GI grip safety very comfortable compared to a beavertail style grip safety and I didn't shoot the gun well. I ended up putting a wilson combat sear and beavertail and now I prefer it over my Sig 1911. Something to think about anyway.

Yea I was worried it may be underwhelming to have a completely basic 1911 unless I was buying some antique that had real history behind it. I’ve looked a the Dan Wesson’s. They are all nice. Just need to find a nice deal.

I've owned a springfield 1911 for a few years. .45 is expensive. It is reliable and very accurate. Ive seen budget 1911s choke, but it's generally rare. These springfields don't choke often. The first 500 rounds I put into it, I had a single stovepipe after the 490ish rounds. For comparison, I had a sig 226 that routinely choked on break-in. The quality of magazines do play a part. If I had the 1911 itch again, it would be 9mm and probably an STI or 2011 double stack. 9mm springfield single stack would be acceptable and i'd take it over a hi-power (I'd also take a stick or whistle over one too, but that's just me). It depends on what you're planning on doing with it. Range practice, HD, or competition? Range practice just get whatever tickles your fancy. Competition you may need to look into things like calibers, holsters (huge PITA to figure out) and various other money pits designed to separate you from your money. Some springfields come with a small Israeli holster. I have doubts about finding a dan wesson deal, but best of luck anyway.

my 2 cents.

The only DW I have seen on sale is on Tenda’s website (https://www.gotenda.com/shop/firearms/handguns/dan-wesson-specialist-5-pistol-45acp-dan-01856/). A 9mm and .45 for $200 off so they come in at $1699. Otherwise paying $2000+.

I have a Springfield 1911 in stainless and I love it. It has beautiful fit & finish, and a really solid feel that I really like. The magazines are really easy to load as well.

Highly recommended. In fact I put a picture of our daughter shooting it in our family calendar this year!
