SR22 Rifle Questions

Just curious how accurate the stock barrels are on the sr22, I just picked one up last week and it is the non threaded type. I was thinking about getting a new 16.5 inch threaded target barrel from brownells then buying the flash hider and spinning it on. I know the flash hider does nothing on these rifles I just really like the look of them on it. I am trying to justify this mod by thinking I am going to have a bit better accuracy out of the new .920 barrel. Any input would be appreciated, and I think that everyone that has posted pictures of their rifles on here has done some amazing work. Its really nice to see some of the great configurations you have come up with

If this is going to be a plinker or a hunter I would not recommend a 16" bull barrel. You will end up with an accurate, but very heavy rifle.
Have you considered either having the existing barrel threaded, or a Dlask 12.5" threaded SR-22 profile barrel? (see post #352 for a pic of an SR-22 with the 12" barrel)

I will be using this rifle for target shooting and some hunting as well. I am willing to put up with some extra weight if I will improve accuracy at the same time. I did consider having this barrel threaded but just figured it would never be near as accurate with the stock barrel as an aftermarket one. I was considering an e r shaw barrel, they seem to be reasonably priced and have some great reviews.

I'm not a good enough shot to tell the difference between my 10" charger bbl and my .750" dia 16" SR bbl. :)

Be wary buying an extra bbl though. Pretty soon you will see that original spare barrel lying around, and you'll start thinking "if I had another reciever...."

Good point about the extra barrel, I think playing around with this rifle is going to be fun and a second barrel laying around might be too much of a temptation. Oh well, if one is good two must be better

Deep Thoughts... By LeadMonkey

After looking over this thread I am amazed the amount of cash people are willing to put out to build a .22. I guess to each their own, but nearing $2000.00 for a .22 WOW.

Well... when you have a very high disposable income, no family, no debts, OCD, and a (at times uncontrollable) lust for ###y engineering... well, a $2000 .22LR is somewhat of an after thought.

That being said I did have 2 22LR rifles up there near $2000... and now I have one having recently just sold one, but alas another $3000 .223/.556 quickly followed, as did a $2000 .45ACP carbine immediately after... so perhaps I may have lost my senses a little in the aforementioned exchange.

It could be worse though, I don't gamble or use substances for example... money in the bank does nothing for your obsessions, like you said to each his own.

All that being said, I honestly envy the family man with accountability and more self control. I suspect many on this board can relate to this sentiment.

Damn, I didn't get to try the .45 carbine, stupid work schedule:(

Before I scour this whole thread.....Maybe someone can answer this or tell me where on this thread I might find:

What 20/25 round mags are the most reliable? (And are they easily available in Canada?) I'll need several

I partially agree with the 3 previous posts regarding BC Steel Lips. I would say they are the most reliable, but have certainly not been "perfect" in my experience. Infact the first BC mag I had was so bad I switched back to BX-1 10 rounders. However, some time later, I aquired 2 lightly used BC mags with a rifle and they have been much more reliable.

I had emailed them back and asked if its possible to purchase a sr-22 barrel in a 10.5 and they said no. Only 8" bull barrels and their 12.5" sr-22 barrel
