Stag 10 build and range review

Just got the brass and dies for the 45 Raptor. Hopefully my barrel should be here any day.

Where did you get the handguard?

The new LR308 handguard from Maple Ridge Armoury has come out, the X1. It's priced right, it will probably be my new go to as long as they can keep them in stock. $340 for the 15" anodized version.

It's too bad they didn't make a 13.5" version like with their AR15 HG options. I am not sure why they didn't as many people like to keep weight as low as possible on the front end of an already heavy longer barrelled AR10. I think that decision will hurt their sales(in fact I know it will as I may have tried one but, due to the lack of a shorter/lighter option went another way).

Thanks for doing this thread by the way Griffin it is very helpful to us AR10 platform rookies.

It wouldn’t hurt to send them an email asking for 13.5”. They are looking for feedback on these handguards. info@mapleridgearmoury.com

I’m happy it’s helped!

Lots of people have messaged me asking what mag vise block I use. I got one from Colonel Mustard, they are out and won't reply to my email. I ordered these from AliExpress and they arrived in 3 weeks. They are the exact same as what I have. They were about $20 each. Link to them here. Keep in mind, these are loose fitting and the gun doesn't lock in. They still work pretty good.

I do not believe there is a 'mil-spec' for modern AR10 sized rifle regarding the gas port location. I've seen AR10 barrels as either 0.250" or 0.300". I believe gas block manufacturer just default at 0.250" so they can be fit anything.

If I remember correctly on a AR15 the 'mil-spec' is 0.295" for the center of the gas port from the should. That way with a traditional FSB & handguard cap the gas port will line up perfectly with the hole on the FSB. I've dealt with installing 4 FSB's with handguard caps on barrels for my vintage / retro M16 stuff. All the caps I've measured have been between 0.020" & 0.025". Regardless most gas blocks have much larger holes than the gas port in the barrel and can withstand quite a bit of misalignment, but 0.050" would be a bit much.

I have the last parts for my build arriving on Thursday. I have a Faxon 20" heavy fluted match barrel in .308 and a Superlative Arms 0.750 adjustable gas block. The instructions for the gas block say to set it back 0.025" and I'm reading here some of you have set yours back by 0.050"... Can someone tell me off the top of their head which distance I should set it back for this barrel? 0.025 or 0.050? I'm going to be dimpling the barrel for the set screws so I'd like to get this right on my first attempt.

Worst case scenario I guess I can get out the calipers when the gas block shows up and measure the barrel from the shoulder to the center of the hole and measure the gas block from the edge to the center of the hole...

The best way is to use your callipers to measure from the shoulder of the gas block journal to the gas port. Then measure the gas block edge to gas port. Then use feeler gauges to set the correct gap.

Well I finally got my new toolcraft BCG to replace my defective Ranier Arms unit. The new bolt from true north arms had perfectly matched headspace with my Maple ridge barrel.

Finally I got to make this project go bang, this thing is going to be very fun and has almost no recoil. I'll have my glass mounted this week and can see how the accuracy is.
