Standing Offhand CHALLENGE

I'm in, but once I get some range time....very very busy right now.

I have a Marlin 30-30 that I will try too. Low scope power, and a load that flirts with moa off the bench.

Regards, Dave.

We are not allowed to shoot standing to 100 yards at any of our outdoor Quebec clubs. 50 yards is the best I can do indoors. Can I join if I can shrink the target to a 3" circle?? I want to join!! Wahahahahaa :(

Sooo, how do the members in Quebec practice three position shooting, silhouette. or 300 meter free rifle? ??

Finally got it done, needed some Christmas shooting with a new toy, it was four shots, right? I'll go check the first page again and shoot another round if necessary.

Kimber Adirondack .308, 2-7x33 Leupold, managed 4 into 3 1/4" at 100. The tighter centered group is rested from last night, as I was sighting it in for the first time then.

Well, my apologies, I royally screwed that up, had another thread in mind.

Re-did it with the new Adirondack, can improve it, wasn't pleased with the performance. My circle's a bit smaller than 6" as that's the size of the closest plastic tub I could find to trace. The one round off to the right was put there on purpose as I could see where the others were falling. Need to work on the vertical dispersion, the ultralight barrel was pretty warm by #7 too as the only pause was to reload.

This was fun, look forward to trying again, I'm out of daylight for now.

I find the Kimbers to be very easy to shoot offhand, contrary to what many would expect with a rifle so light. They seem to point themselves, and the stocks are made to fit your hand, not ride on sandbags.

I find very light rifles to be difficult to hold steady offhand... a little more weight really steadies me down... 7-8 pounds seems to be my sweet spot... I don't know if there is validity to scaling the platform to the body mass... but that could have something to do with it.

Most silhouette guns I remembered were in the 10 lbs range.

Can't argue, competition proves they work, and long barrels. These lil Kimbers are just effortless in the hands.

Great work indeed ardent.... Not sure I have ever replicated that with any of my rifles....

What I will say, is that the proper use of a sling helps.....you can "add weight" as necessary with the sling hand....

IMOP, you can never have a rifle too light, but you can certainly have one too heavy...

Agreed, being so light they hold steadier than most, and like you say the stock is shaped for field shooting. This little setup comes in at 5 1/2lbs all up with scope, you forget you're holding it, needed such a rig for goat guiding.

Need it for goat guiding my eye!

Now that I've met you in person I can say you could carry 7 of that rifle and not catch up with the weight of my spare tire!

I hope I get an opportunity to sneak rocks into your pack some day. Serve you right, you fit bugger.

:)
