Sticky for Ruger PCC

Looks really good. You thinking about painting/cerakoting it at all? i know its a cheap carbine so most would probably not, but its my only one at the moment and probably for a while, so I am definitely having fun dressing it up.

Thanks, currently it is my favorite setup.
I don't plan on painting/coating since I swap around stocks and forends. I have the original straight stock, the Magpul BackPacker and this setup. So it would be a lot of painting to keep everything "paired up"
Also, I am considering picking up the CROM chassis since I have a Moss500 SGA sitting here but hesitant knowing I'll pick up over a pound. I think a carbine should be light and handy. As is my PC9 weighs same as my FX-9... and as an aside, I prefer the Ruger.

Been waiting for my tandemkross straight chassis for a bit now, Customs must really like it and wanna keep it. AFAIK the timeline with customs is a custom-fit solution right? no two are the same?

Is it though? Mine is about 1/2lb heavier than my FX-9.

According to this guy's review, the Ruger weighs 6.8lbs.

My TNW ASR comes in at 5.5lbs, making it one of the lightest in the PCC class, but of course that stacks up with whatever crap I threw on it - a 2-10x FFP scope comes with a lot of glass, so there's a couple more pounds anyway.

The FX-9 is reported to weigh 6.1lbs on a few sites. So I guess 700grams is the difference between that and the Ruger. Not insignificant, especially considering that more of that weight is forwards of the magazine well, making the Ruger relatively nose-heavy.

Just had a look at Hunting Gear Guy's review of the FX-9... ouch. Seems worthwhile to mention that he goes on and on about ammunition pickiness with the FC-9. Aluminum case ammunition, flat nose, JHP, says none of that really works, with case failures resulting from out of battery ignition being a distinct possibility. For comparison, my friend barfman has two Ruger PPCs, with different setups (one with the Magpul backpacker stock), and after a fair bit of range time says they just eat up whatever he feeds them. They just work. Is that worth carrying an extra 700grams/1.5lbs? Guess it depends on whether you want a firearm which just works, or one which is extremely ammo picky.

Even heavier for the 6-position model at 7.3lbs. that's the one I'm eyeing.

Right, that's the one with the aluminum AR-style 'shroud' forend I guess. Lots of weight there. I wonder if some carbon fibre parts are going to come out for those looking to put their Ruger on a diet. There are CF shrouds weighing just a couple of ounces. Of course that still leave the heavy barrel up front... Perhaps getting the Magpul Backpacker stock and just always storing spare ammunition in its compartment to help with balance is the answer. Or even adding some weight to the buttstock in whichever style.

My FX-9 weighs 6.6lbs
The Ruger is longer which leverages weight outwards giving a heavier feel.
My Ruger in the ArchAngel stock with Zhukov forend is 6.7Lbs

I feel like if the BackPacker had a little shorter length of pull and a little longer forend it would be perfect for me.
Keeping a loaded PMAG in in the storage does help with the balance.
I like a balanced rifle of course but not a fan of having to add weight to get there. The Magpul carrying ammo is an acceptable compromise to me.
I sure wish our Non restricted ruling was like non NFA (SBR) was at 16". I bet on a rifle like the PCC it would make a noticeable difference in balance.

Is there anyway to make it lighter , damn it's heavy

Indeed there is, Taccom makes a lightweight barrel and hand-guard.

however, as per their disclaimer not all their hand guard work with all the ruger PC types

Here is a list of carbines that will take the $99.95 tube: 19115, 19116, 19117, 19121, 19122, 19126, 19127.

Here is a list of carbines that will take the $79.95/$89.95 tube: 19100,19101,19102,19105, 19106,19107,19108,19109,19110,19111,19112,19113,19124

And using the barrel doesn't allow take down, and only works with their hand-guard OR you can get the their assembly to use AR15 hand-guards, but I cannot find that anywhere on their site so you may have to contact them about that.

Our barrel does not support take down, nor does it support any of the current hand guards offered for the Ruger PC Carbine. Instead, we offer a solid light weight barrel assembly with the ability to mount AR15 hand guards to extend your reach on the firearm.

The mods really need to resurrect the old Ruger PCC thread, remove whatever offending posts caused it to get nuked, and merge it with this one. So, so, SO much great info in it.

That would be awesome. I wish we could use the waybackmachine to find it, but it doesnt have CGN cached unfortunately.

Also everyone feel free to share your build pics, love to see more unique Ruger PCCs on here!
