Never mind.
The Zimbabwe PH I hunt with has a Lott converted M70 as his go to, runs like a hot damn. I know this doesn't mean much, but pretty common and simple conversion. If I keep my stainless .375, I might do a Lott project on it for a light, 18.5" stopper for work.
Something like the short barreled carbines built by Ryan Breeding?
What setup would you use for sights?
Why the Lott took off and not the Ackley, I'll never know for sure.
The Lott chamber was designed so it could fire .458 Win ammo in a pinch. So when you arrive in Africa and your ammo doesn't, you still have a sporting chance at being able to use your rifle. Not so the Ackley.
