Stopping Rifles, .375 - .450 - .505 Gibbs

Never mind.

Oh come on, I missed it! :p

The Zimbabwe PH I hunt with has a Lott converted M70 as his go to, runs like a hot damn. I know this doesn't mean much, but pretty common and simple conversion. If I keep my stainless .375, I might do a Lott project on it for a light, 18.5" stopper for work.

Something like the short barreled carbines built by Ryan Breeding?

I need to stop reading this thread. Too much temptation!

Look forward to seeing it if you take that route Ardent!

You can use 458 winchester in an Ackley 450. I do. Others do. I use Lott in my Ackley. Its the best of all worlds.

The Lott chamber was designed so it could fire .458 Win ammo in a pinch. So when you arrive in Africa and your ammo doesn't, you still have a sporting chance at being able to use your rifle. Not so the Ackley.

The Ackley was too, you end up with a 1mm neck on the case, and it ejects and resizes as normal. The shoulder is just a smidge behind the .458 Win's case mouth, so it centers the .458 Win.

Swiped off the web, the slight overlap of the .450 Ackley's respectable neck onto the .458 Win's case allows it to center in the chamber and seal properly on firing. I believe it was intentional in its design, and prior to the Lott taking off was widely touted as a benefit and design feature of the Ackley.

How come you guys don't consider/use the .470 Capstick more often? Is it the relative lack of bullets? I figured it would be more popular, given the popularity of the .470 NE. I think Winchester did a factory run a few years back too.

Steve H. is not a computer guy but I'll let him know next I see him that his Gibbs conversion (creation) has been let out to run its legs some. I have discussed that rifle with Steve on several occasions. He told me that when it was done he REALLY didn't want to give it back to the customer that contracted him for the conversion - he liked it that much - but of course he did.
