Hey y'all from Edmonton for sure heard about this one, maybe outside too. Remember back in October of 2006 and our new pol chief had a gun amnesty for the month, and some looser turned in a Sturmgewehr 44 to the cops of which they boasted at month end amnesty a success, assualt weapone turned in. Little did the person who gave it away to be melted knew it was worth alot of $$ to us collectors. Does anyone actually know what happened to that piece of history? Did the police actually destroy it. Curious

Please god let this not be true! They would have been a very popular gun for vet bringbacks and those are the guns that get turned in. Damn our uncorrupted police force if this were mexico some enterprising officer would replace it with an SKS and sell it to an US collector. If it is true someone should let the german government go as someone mentioned on the springfield museum thread that germany wanted their 44's back from them?

Exporting an unegistered machine gun could be an interesting experience. If the German Gov't is interested in acquiring specimens, that could be an option for a 12(X) gun. Museum donation could be another possibility, might yield a worthwhile tax receipt. The thing that aggravates me about these amnesties is that folks are not told that they have legal options in the dispostion of unwanted guns, apart from surrendering for destruction.

Hee-Hee, when I did a tour in the Golan Heights that little brown box style brief case (aka "Diplomatic UN Mail") used to piss off both the Syrians and the Israelis everytime I crossed the AOS. If I remember correctly the items usually requested to bring across the line went like this.. Going back into Syria, bring booze, Cdn smokes and ####. Going back into Israel bring old ####, empty booze bottles, and puzzle rings. Ha ha.. The Isreali guards always tried to trick me into opening up the bag. I always maintained my position, NO WAY! But if you really want too, we can but the proceedure meant a very big report being filed with governments involved, that usually made them go away. How I loved that job.. The Diplomatic Bag....

You see that is what scares the heck out of me. Ifn I up and get wasted today or just plain o'l croke what will really happen to my collection. I better re-visit my will and I suggest you all do the same. That poor old fella probably would have died of a heart attack anyway during life if he could see how his pride and joy was GIVEN over to the police in the name of stopping gun crime. I am not and will not bash the police, but please really where is the logic in a gun amnesty. Look I will retract that, because I know exactly what it is. It is a political decision made by upper management to make the gun shy people feel good about something. Ever since Poly Tech in the early nineties the government had to really do some smoke and mirrors to make Joe public feel good about that tragedy, hence bill C-68 and over a billion dollars wasted.
