SU16 barrell crack.????

tThe barrel lenght is now 18 1/2 inches , so cutting is not an option. Vault has emailed Kel Tec ,to see if they can get me a barrel and receiver, with no internal parts.
wouldn't it still be the cheapest way to fix it even though it would be restricted?

It would be either that or sell parts and scrap it if it were me, but I would never have bought it in the first place.

I thought cutting would make it prohib, depending on what Keltec and vault says,I might have no choice but to sell it for parts.

.22s aren't real?

Could have bought a decent AR for that much money is what I meant. To me a 22 is pretty much a toy. I bought my daughter a 22 when she was 6 years old and we had lots of fun at the range. Teaching her how to shoot and about firearms safety filled quite a few relaxing afternoons.

My 22 is for grouse and gophers. Never use it other than that.

$1200 into a SU-16 is just as silly as $1400 into a T-97. For that much money you could have just bought a better rifle in the first place.
Beside a VZ-58, I don't really see what "better rifle" you could get for the money. XCR and Tavor are both at least a grand above that price point... AR are out of the buying list as they are restricted.

A toy that can do the same damage an ar can do ?

It only becomes prohib if you cut the barrel of a restricted.
If it is non restricted as long as you stay over 18.5 inch it is still non restricted but if you go shorter it becomes restricted.

The rules are really stupid. I can buy a 16 inch barrel AR then replace the barrel with a 10.5 inch barrel and it is still restricted but if I cut that 16 inch barrel to 10.5 inch then it is prohibited. Make sense? Not to me either.

Like I said earlier, to me it looks like you will lose $800 if you buy the parts and repair it then sell it or if you just cut your losses and sell it for parts now. To me I have better things to do with my time than chase after parts and then try to sell a rifle unless I was going to at least lose less money that the other option.

I guess it doesn't hurt to wait to see what they are going to charge you for parts though.

I've seen used AR180B-2's go for $1200-$1500 in the past and having owned one in the past I can say they are 10x the rifle either the SU-16 or T97 is. There are also a few pistol caliber carbines that I would much rather have than either of those two rifles for around $1000.
A VZ-58 would be a good option if he wanted a red rifle, I haven't heard too many negatives about them.

the SU-16 has a pencil thin barrel. No wonder they say not to thread it. I got the SU16 when it first came out and tried to AR-ize it because I didn't want to get into ARs. Well that's a mistake that people keep on making. Just get an AR.
Whenever (and IF even) AR becomes non-restricted, I'll get one (...or two, (...or three)), but until these days of happiness, I'll stick with NR sub-$1500 black rifles.

if I get parts for $300 , then sell the rifle and extra parts for $900 , that would be a limitless better than trying to sell as is for $400. Regards to cutting the barrel, I don't have a RPAL .

Hahaha, that's why there are so many military rifles chambered in 22LR right? Think of how much ammo they could carry into battle if they just got over their ego's to have a rifle that pushed that bullet 3000fps. No more hearing damage to the soldiers either. 22LR is looking better and better all the time.

My reason for not getting a VZ-58 was about no clear availability of non-corrosive 7.62x39 and the massive amount of trouble reported about the .223 version. I don't mind running corrosive crap in my $200 chinese SKS, but not in a $1000 rifles. Not to mention .223 boxer primed brass (hundreds from range's bin) and .224 projectiles are plentiful, while 7.62x39 brass and .312 projectiles are both scarce.

Supply for AR-180B is pretty much non-existant in Canada. The best option is to import from the US, which is a major pain.

I didn't say it was better , just that it can do the same kinda damage, just gotta be a little closer . My point was, that it's not a toy.

You're right, we all need to have effective killing machine... Civilians AR will only ever be used (with the current laws) to punch holes in cardboard, or erode steel plates. Nothing a 22LR can't do, even at 100 yards.

At least, with my T-97, I can poke holes though coyote, which is getting a bit more fun than paper and steel.

The more people that own an AR now the more likely they are to become non restricted. By hiding from them you are doing exactly what the anti's want the restrictions to do.
Show them you don't care what they say and that you will own whatever you want regardless of the hoops they make you jump through and some day we may have a chance.
I own 5 AR's and an HK USC along with 4 pistols. I don't care what they do, until they say I can't own one I'm going to have as many as I can afford.

I know what you're saying but at no distance does a 22LR do the same damage as a 223. Yes it makes holes in paper just the same but when you start shooting steel or fruit or whatever your reactive target may be you instantly see and hear the difference.
To me the 22 has very little use. I own three because they are cheap to shoot and a great way to introduce new shooters/kids to shooting without having to deal with recoil and muzzle blast.

The only reason I'll get my restricted is for handguns. I have enough rifles.... Though, the paperwork has been sitting on my desk for 7 months...
