O'Toole supported the trans rights bill, ### pride, marijuana decriminalization, and believes in equality for all. Those are 100% the reason Scheer lost; he was a social conservative and the opposition blasted that on every speaker that he's going to control who's @$$ you can stick your d!ck into. scheer was also against marijuana even though that was pretty much a done deal and women were concerned about his abortion beliefs. Every. Single. soCon in the race will bring those very fears back and it will be used against them.

So right off the bat Mackay and O'toole are the only viable options for winning. Mackay has plenty of controversies in his past, though not as bad as black face, so there's that. But his incessant attacks on Trudeau with no substance added for any alternatives really turns off a lot. These aren't my words, they're from others and I have to agree. Plus Mackay keeps going off about the bathroom bill even though the majority of Canadians supported it.

So really O'Toole has the best chances. Atlantic Canada doesn't care for Mackay since they see him as the guy who sold out the PCs to religious nutjobs and clearly still haven't forgiven the party.

Helps that O'toole has military experience which will hopefully give him the balls that the current CPC leader lacks.

The issue that might be a decider is the carbon tax. 80% of Canadians believe the environment to be a major concern but only about 27% were in favour of the carbon tax. The CPC has a great opportunity here to satisfy that 80% with something that isn't a carbon tax but still addresses big polluters and invests in green tech.

Tl;dr: O'toole imo is the better candidate to git 'er don

I absolutely do not think O'Toole can win. Great guy, but he is too old, too "conservative" and he simply will not be the guy who gets young people or moderate centrists excited about the CPC.

The middle is up for grabs. Mackay has the best chance. I base that opinion on the polling data, not my personal feelings.

WHAT!?

O'toole was born in 1973 and Mackay was born in 1966 ... Neither of those is old but O'tool is almost a decade younger. And O'toole is far less Conservative (except fiscally which will be important when our debt hits $1T - yes, that's a T for trillion - and our debt servicing hits $30-50B per year) than Mackay for the reasons I already listed.

The polling data is still too close to call, and unreliable due to the nature of how voting is done in the leadership race. Remember, Scheer won the race by being everyone's third pick.

Leslyn Lewis - "I am proposing a fulsome review of current firearms laws to ensure that we are focusing our efforts on keeping guns out of the hands of gangs and other criminals, instead of wasting resources going after law-abiding Canadians.

A safer Canada is one where we use Common sense to make our laws. That’s the kind of firearms approach you can expect from me.

while she said she would repeal the oic gun ban her polices on her website say they will only review the firearms law not repeal them, read the fine print.

O-toole seems like the only option

I believe you are correct . Lewis is like Bernier and the PPC , they may look good on paper , but have no chance of becoming PM at this time .

I'm totally with you on those points. And, not that it applies here as I don't see any of our candidates having a particularly strong "youth vote", but decade after decade we've seen that a candidate with strong appeal to young voters rarely has those votes show up on election day. ie. Young voters don't show up to vote in enough numbers to move the needle so don't pin your hopes on them swinging an election.

I see Mackay's main strength being that his name is somewhat recognizable given he's been in the spotlight before. But, for me Mackay has too much baggage and he comes across as "fluid" with his positions so I don't trust him to stand by his commitments and really fight to deliver on them. I can envision him making a half hearted attempt to deliver sensible firearm reforms, but I expect him to abandoned ship at the first sign of rough waters just like any other career politician. He also comes across as someone who wants the job rather than wants to do the job. Anyway, there is nothing in his history that makes me think he'll put any serious effort into delivering for us firearms owners: I believe he is pandering to us firearms owners as we are the upset beehive that he needs to pacify in order to get the honey he needs to fuel his dreams of being PM.

As for Lewis... After watching her interview videos and reading many articles, while I'm very impressed with her intelligence, credentials and academic achievements, I'm confident her social conservatism will drag her down just like with Scheer. Also, as with Mackay, I see her support for firearms owners as being something "tacked on" to her platform in order to get her through to the party leaders position.

Anyway, after watching these candidates interviews, reading articles, and reading social media posts, I'm by far in favour of nominating O'Toole.

If any of you are sitting on the fence, I strongly recommend watching the recent CCFR interview with O'Toole: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK3huhPM9RA

Why Erin? Can you explain what makes him better than the other CPC candidates (specifically for firearms rights) such as Leslyn Lewis, or Derek Sloan?

They have all spoken out against it. They have also spoken out against child abuse. “Speaking out against....” means nothing. To this point O’toole is the only one I’ve heard say “ I will reverse the OIC”.

Heard all Lewis's interviews,, too soft and not decisive.

We don't need the vote of the well balanced level headed people. They're far and few between.

WE need the vote from the people that will fall for a novelty act, like Lewis.

That is what will get Trudeau removed from doing further destruction to the nation.

Lewis only needs to follow the orders of the CPC who know how to get this country back on track.

Hold up a minute: You want to elect a party leader who will "follow orders"??? When I'm voting for a party leader, I want them to lead! Not be a puppet for some back room folks who I have to hope have their interests aligned with the ones I voted for. Is it too much to ask to have a party and a party leader that is transparent with no room for hidden agendas, bait-and-switch, two faced, puppets for unseen backroom manipulators? Just imagine having a party leader that, when confronted by the media or in question period, has to waffle around and check in with some unseen backroom bosses: You can't hide that sh*t. I want a party leader who will be honest, direct, and intelligent & experienced enough to not f**k up their words when hit with hard questions. ie. Be like O'Toole.

I don't believe otoole can beat the turd.
He is too old and white.
To win you need to resonate with voters.
I 'll take a weak leader with a strong majority over a strong leader sitting in opposition.

I just want Trudeau OUT, at any or all costs!!

He is a Veteran, based in Ontario that understands the west and Alberta's needs and lived on the east coast. He seems very common sense and not wishy washy like some of the others. He has my vote

If the CPC wins the next fed election can they use OIC to ban the Liberal party for being a danger to democracy? For missinforming the general public. Abuse of power etc.
