Surprises on CanadaAmmo.ca

Ok this is funny. Been there with many items on different sites.

Insomnia last night and I noticed it. Then did the typical CanadaAmmo internal dilemma.

Ok ordered a crate. Thats a lot of ammo.
Wait, maybe i should order another.
No one's enough.
Well where one is good, two is better.
No you don't need another crate.
Who said anything about need.
But maybe I should get a crate of 5.56 from somewhere.
Just go to sleep and think about it tomorrow.

I shot a few rounds of this chinese copper washed stuff through my R700 for kicks and surprisingly it shot tighter groups than most all non match factory ammo i have tried!!? .. Still scared to shoot that stuff through my stainless match barrel too often ? would almost be worth sacrificing a barrel to see what kind of life you could get out of the barrel using that ammo only .. Still have to try it beyond 300m but damn it surprised me .

would a military really give its members ammo that wore out and ruined barrel at an accelerated pace? need to order some along with the .223 that also supposedly wears out barrels!

It depends on the firearm it was designed for, you really think they are worried about barrel wear in a machine gun or assault rifle that is meant for supressing fire (putting 1000's of rounds down range as fast as possible)? In the military if your rifle doesn't work you get a new one on someone elses dime, slightly different than the real world and I don't think you will see scout snipers shooting this type of norinco either out of their rifles.

Saying the military uses it so it can't be harmfull to any gun is just a stupid statement IMO.

MG barrel life is a major consideration
yes, but the cunstruction is also different due to the purpose along with it's life measured in tens of thousands of rounds if not hundreds or more (accuracy requirements for a MG are also very different than a civilian rifle depending on use, manufacturer, etc).

There is a reason why MG crews carried spare barrels to swap out, they do wear.

The reason Machine Gunners carry spare barrels is so that they can swap out a hot barrel and give it time to cool down.
that is one of the reasons depending on the MG, malfunction and failure are some more.

They also have a supply tent that will give em a new MG free of charge when it doesn't work, If I had one of those I would be Happy happy happy!

Militaries do not get any guns for free. I'm sure if they broke down the cost of any appreciable difference in barrel life vs more expensive ammo, it was favorable for them, just as it will be favorable to you to shoot $0.40 rounds vs $1.00 rounds. Ask yourself just how much money you're saving per case, and how many cases it would take to 'wear out a barrel' ( if ever ). Then, take your remaining doubts and challenge CanAm to take up their offer to replace your rifle from wearing a barrel out. :) I'm quite confident that they'll have sold you enough ammo to afford your rifle!

F*#Ck it. Just ordered a case. Nothing more fun than wearing out a barrel by shooting a few thousand rounds. ..... Waiting.:xes

If and when I rip through enough ammo to actually appreciably wear a barrel out I'll smugly consider it "mission accomplished".

If you're honestly worried about that you clearly come from the "collector" and not "shooter" part of the firearms world. When you use things they get, well, used. If you can't live with that enjoy your safe queens but that's not why I'm in the hobby.
Nothing wrong either way mind you, but I know what camp I'm in.

no, but the taxpayer does pay for the guns in the case of our military and most other countries are run the same around the world. not that that was even remotely close to the example which I posted.

I can assure you I am not a "collector"

I initially asked the question because there are considerable points posted about bimetal bullets and barrel wear being increased from shooting them. How much faster does it wear? nobody seems to know because even the so called "shooters" which you are seem to have no clue either. Most of my rifles are used for hunting so maintaining accuracy is a concern even though I do punch paper and plink with them from time to time. I asked the question mainly because I was considering shooting this ammo through my RFB, but with them not having a chrome lined barrel I don't think I am going to take the chance

Do other hobbyist forums sound this much like a support group for some intense, pathological behavior?

I do this too....

This is super hard to pass up- can anyone tell me the quality of this ammo as far as accuracy? I dont consider 308 a close range plinking round for me its too expensive(22lr!)- not expecting 1 MOA but will these make it out to 300 yards without self-destructing/10" groups?

I have an 8x8 and a 12x12 steel that I like to set up at range just wondering if these would be good enough to hit those at medium ranges. wouldnt even consider it but I cant even reload for $400/1000....

FWIW this ammo shots worse than the norinco milsurp brass case they used to have. It's plinking and trigger tchnique ammo, dont expect miracles.

I'm taking the chance with my RFB, I'll let you know how it turns out.
