Swiss Arms Sniper (some pics and first impressions)

Not a significant feature. It's just a bonus. Unlike many rifles, it is not the primary selling feature.

Bonus? Unfortunately, the value here in Canada will drop like a rock if it becomes prohibited. Just ask all the guys who have significant money tied up into firearms they legally can't even take out of the home. Even they guys who are grandfathered and able to buy prohiited firearms don't want to pay much for them.

In any event, it's Uncle Walter's problem not ours.

The world is a big place a little paperwork and this rifle can easily go to someone else in another country who would be happy to pay twice the price. The high end prohibs leave for market value, why can't this?

Canada is not relevant in the world of high end firearms, something the business savvy less nutters often forget to consider.

Well fella, that seems to have been lost on you when you were railing me about having an opinion on the value of this rifle. I said the guy had options of buying this rifle elsewhere for less money. Your argument works both ways. ;)

However, we're making some fairly broad assumptions here because we don't know for fact if the rifle is importable into the US now or in the future. If things go sour again for Canadian shooters (as it always seems to) I hope that Unlce does have the ability to sell it elsewhere.

That's kind of a ridiculous statement, I meant if it became restricted.

Of course prohibiting a firearm would reduce it's worth considerably... It's no longer a firearm, just a door stop.

You're not making sense. Here's what you replied to a fellow poster. I was simply commenting on what you wrote. I can't assume what you "meant" only read what you "said".

LOL, this thread is funny. :p. I'll be buying more rarities; you can count on that!

I hope so. This thread is the best entertainment I've had in the last (3) days. Listen, if you want something truly unique, I hear Wolverine has Accuracy International ASW50's for just a touch under $11k. I'm sure you can swing it. ;) It's just the thing you need for shooting paper at 100 yds.

And you're just being pedantic.

No, just calling you out. I don't think for a second you knew what you were talking about.

You're right. I have no idea what I'm talking about. I've just been making things up this whole time.

Oh, and I've had time an AW50. Not hugely impressed. Not that I'm a big fan of the reticle in the ZF6-24 that was riding on it, but another story.

Regardless, Uncle Walther, nice rifle, enjoy it.

Well, I'm sure that if you would be so kind enough to start a thread on why you weren't happy with the AI 50 or the scope you speak of, we would all collectively learn from your experience and wealth of knowledge on said platform.

Oh, and please don't forget to add pictures along with the commentary. There's nothing quite like AI #### to start the day off right.

JR imported ten of these rifles, I have one. He's also imported a couple of parts kits that he's assembled into rifles and someone else who posts on here has done the same, so there are 13 in Canada. Original retail price was $5,000. Mine will shoot 0.7 - 0.8 MOA with GP90, which is about as good as you're going to get without going to a proper match gun.

The reason they stopped making them was simple lack of demand, is my understanding. No point really to a 5.56mm sniper rifle, it was aimed at the police market, they all use 7.62mm.

The problem with them is because of the rail being welded on, you can't use the mirage band. High power optics don't make a lot of sense because of that but it wasn't really designed as anything other than a DMR for use out to 300m.

Wasn't my gun or ammo.

No need for a whole thread about it. It just felt like 'another' bolt gun in .50BMG. The mono-pod was decent, I liked the granularity in the height. Didn't like the Parker Hale style bipod (swivel on such a heavy gun makes balance trick). Accurate to at least big boulder at approx 600m. I will admit, I don't have a huge interest in bolt guns, so the bias is mine.

The ZF 6-24x72 however... They chose to go with a mildot reticle. I understand it was built to GSG-9 specs for the DSR-1, but they should have updated the reticle by now. It's a generation or two behind in that sense, but it is difficult to (and hasn't been) beat the fact that the scope has virtually 0 parallax thanks to that big 72mm bell (that also makes it a nightmare to mount...).
