SXS Upland Gun Advice

Gents,

I bought this. 1932 Fox A Grade 16 Gauge 6lbs 5 oz lightweight magic wand.

I am packing it up and sending it this week to Chris in Newfoundland to be completely overhauled, customized and re-stocked.

Thank you all for the advice. Especially Canvasback who has a beautiful collection of side by sides and has become a friend. We had a great time learning about his guns and shooting with him at our hunting club a couple of weeks ago and he even let me hunt with one of his vintage sidelocks. His manufrance is the nicest shotgun I have ever seen and I am hunting for a good candidate for another custom shop job! Its amazing how nice people can be sometimes and he really helped me out and talked me off the ledge from making a giant mistake on a very worn out Purdey.

Hey Adam, it's been my pleasure. Always fun to find like minded people. And when like minded means vintage SxS, there aren't a whole lot of us. Now I just have to talk you into letting us hold our annual SxS shoot at your club! Oh, oh, my ulterior motive has slipped out. Hahaha.

You may even have a vintage/custom SxS ready in time for it next spring!

I think that is a great idea.

I hope the FOX is ready to roll by then!

This gentleman Chris in Nfld. Does he do good stock work? Specifically SKB O/U from 1980s?
Cheers

For those not following doublegun bbs forum (and lately I would be embarrassed to recommend it as has been brought to new lows by personal attacks from toxic trolls such as dIckless jOke), unless I'm mistaken the seller Mr. Peck is CGN member Normanmclean.

Chris Dawe of Conception Bay South does excellent work.

Like he has for some others here, he has done some beautiful work repairing and refinishing stocks for me in the past. Right now he's working now on a restock of a Remington 1894 BE as well as a refinish of a lovely Belgian Deforny for me. I would recommend him unreservedly for just about any SxS work you require done.

Congrats AR15meister, when do you think your SxS will be done?

Cheers
Jay

I bought a gun......stay tuned!

we will post up some pics once it passes the inspection process and I take delivery.
I am probably going to buy another one as well....this is addictive....

Jay, not sure when AR15meister will check in again but I can take a stab at it.

Chris got the gun several weeks ago and has already begun the process. Although he won't be doing all the work. Some (engraving) will be outsourced to some excellent people near Quebec City while the CCH will be done by Oskar Kob of Nova Scotia, one of the best CCH guys in Canada. However Oskar is moving and that means he is downing tools for a while, until he is set up properly at his new place. I have two guns myself in line for CCH that will be delayed because of this. I think the original target for this gun was going to be early March but now I would guess more like end of April. But personal experience tells me these things get done when they get done, not when we hoped they would be completed. LOL

One thing is for sure, Chris doesn't waste any time if he can help it.
