decided I want a new or new to me Encore single shot (once I thin the safe out to make room), Any recommendations on where to buy these rifles and barrels? If you have an extra barrel do you need an extra forearm? Which scope mounts work best and has anyone used a QD system to move scopes between barrels?

They are a great shooting platform! I bought my TC Pro Hunter at Lebaron's during one of their 25% off sales events. No complaints with that price. Started with .50 M/L, and have acquired .30-06 and .223 barrels. I am using the factory fibre optic sights on the M/L, but will go to a scope as my eyes are getting old. I have dedicated socpes on the '06 and .223 barrels. My Son can get 1/2", 3 shot groups with Remington Reduced Recoil with the .30.

I got mine from what was then SIR (now Cabelas) in Winnipeg. I have a .30-06 and a .223 with 'scopes on each.

You don't need a new forearm for rifle barrels. You do for muzzleloader barrel though. Not sure about shotgun.

i love mine. i'm not a fan of switching scopes around, just don't like wasting time and ammo. all mine have dedicated scopes for each barrel. i like talley one piece base and rings. forearms and buttstocks are interchangeable. from top to bottom.

I have a Pro Hunter in 30/06. I had a gunsmith shorten the barrel to 23inches and recrown. It is a great size to carry for moose hunting and slips into my Eberlstock pack.
If you haven't yet, check out Mike Bellm's site for everything related to the TC Encore
http://www.bellmtcs.com/store/
I also added his large hammer spring and followed his instructions for improving the trigger.

I have a Leupold QR base and rings. The medium rings are large enough for a 40mm objective scope lens to just clear the barrel. Not shown in the photo, but there was enought room to add a Butler Creek cover to the front.

here's my latest addition to the family, picked it up today and took me forever to find a new in box one since they discontinued them a couple of years back. ordered a DNZ one piece med base and rings that i'm waiting for them to deliver. still haven't decided if i'm putting a leupy vx-2 1-4x20 or another nikon monarch african. wifey told me i have to work some overtime to pay for the new scope so i have some time to think about it. if i wait a little and work another overtime shift maybe i'll go with a vx-r..... we'll see. i'm sure it'll be a beast to shoot, i know my 375 H&H is.....

I would call Travis at JoBrooks firearms. I bought mine from them and got a great deal on it.
The Gun Dealer in New Brunswick has quite a few barrels and there's always a few used on the exchange.

I wanted the TC Encore platform, .22 .223 and 12 ga were my barrels of choice. Sadly when I tried to buy them, both Lebaron and BassPro didn't have what I wanted (only had black powder guns and leftover barrels) and wouldn't order those for me. That was in the fall of 2012, I hope things are better now, or just try Gerard's suggestion.

Nice collection of bbl's & actions you got there Ferg.
For me, I'm on my 2nd Encore 'except this new one is named the "Endevour"(209x50), I bought my 1st one from Russel Sports out of Calgary (no longer in business)and the 2nd from Prairie gun traders . Last fall I picked up a brand new .300WM Pro Hunter bbl from Jo-Brooks and it dropped me a moose. Both bbl's wear Nikons. Omega on 50 and a Monarch on the 300. Always looking for more bbl's. They're IMO a great chassis to build on!!

I have shot TC rifles since the 80's. Had many of them. I have had some astronomically bad shooting barrels (.357Maximum, 21" contender carbine). It would shoot well one day (1-1.5") then produce a 4"+ group the next.

As my shooting education improved, I realized some of the problems were in my expectations/loading/shooting techniques.
After getting other calibers and different barrels, I learned what these rifles
Can do.
The 6mmTCU I can shoot into MOA out to around 600 yards.(target only)
The 7-30 waters is a Work in progress, but I expect it to do close to the same.

This was a nice positive change after shooting the 357Max!

I tried the "Pro Hunter platform".
I had similar experiences with it. Accuracy Wasnt as dramatically poor, but not cosistantly good either.
I tried the:

22-250
30-06
7mm Rem Mag
45-70 Katadin barrel

The accuracy from the 22-250 was dissappointing (1.5-2MOA) but not allot of testing was done by comparison.
3006 & 7mm Mag was about the same. Which is "ok" for general hunting.
The 45-70 Katadin barrel shot very well! But recoil was ridiculous!
I have since resorted to using mid range cast bullet loadings in the 45-70. Comfortable and accurate.

The biggest downfall of this Model in my Personal opinion is the buttstock design. The compressability of the stock reduces felt recoil by a Noticable margin, BUT, due to its compression during recoil of the 30-06 & larger cartridges, it causes the rifle to buck and LEAP up! And consequently brings the scopes within a hairs breath of the face.

The most notable/best thing about this model is the 50 cal muzzle loader combo.
I love it! Its terribly accurate and managable through the recoil sequence! More than I would have guessed!
I have used the muzzleloader barrel to take many animals over the years, and is my favorite!

Hope some Gunnutz can benifit from my post, thankyou for the opportunity to share some
Of my experiences.

I love mine but barrels were hard to find for awhile, according to my source TC did not ship any new barrels for about 18 months after they were taken over by S+W, but have started shipping again.

I have 204 ruger, 7mm mag, a really short barreled 45-70, 50 cal ml and a 308

one thing i noticed with mine when using the bigger 375 H&H barrel, after the first two shots the barrel really needs to cool. if i try to shoot 4-5 shots poi raises 2-3" each shot after the first two and the barrel gets super hot. never noticed that when using my .300 win mag or the .338 federal i used to have. my older encore frame i use as a dedicated muzzleloader and use the pro hunter frame with rifle and slug barrels. with both the muzzleloader and slug barrels on either frame i can easily keep 3-4 rounds within 6-8" at 200 yards, wich is good enough for this hunter.

the only problem i've had with any T/C product was a 12g pro hunter slug barrel i bought off the ee a while back had the base holes drilled too deep and i noticed a "discolouration" in the barrel where the 6 holes were drilled, i contacted T/C customer service and they told me it wasn't safe and a common issue with that barrel, and had a huge problem with exporting a new barrel to me. they came good and had Lyle at accuracy plus sent me a 20g barrel with forearm and rings and bases to replace the 12g barrel. i still have the 12g base and a black pro hunter forearm for a 12g barrel. i've been looking for a new in box one for awhile......
this was all when S&W took over and they couldn't give me a specific date when they would be able to send me a new 12g barrel, settled for the 20g and it's been awsome.

I had troubles finding an an accurate handload with my 204 bbl. So I traded it for a 7mm RM bbl. It loved R22!!

Fergie, have you checked Ellwood Epps for a shotgun bbl?

I have been into s/s T/C Contender carbines for 18 years now have few frames and a few barrels but over the last year or so I started wanting a bit more performance than they could give so this year I purchased a new s/s T/C Prohunter in 7mm mag traded the 7mm mag barrel for a used fired 20 times 30-06 barrel and purchased a used fired 6 times 375 H&H barrel.

Both barrels where s/s 28" fluted when they arrived I shipped them both to be shortened to 22" by Canada Post to one of CGN's competent gunsmiths = Guntech (Dennis Sorenson) of Vancouver Island.

Here is the unbelievable part of all this I shipped the barrels on a Monday and received them back Thursday afternoon = a 4 day turn around.

Mounted a 30 year old Leupold Vari X 11 3-9X40 scope onto the 30-06 barrel raced to the gun club zeroed the barrel in as I was leaving the club my son joined me for a short drive into the hill = 50 minutes later he shot a nice 2X2 coastal blacktail buck.

Swapped scopes to a Leupold Vari X 111 4.5-14X40mm and worked up a load with 165gr Accubonds @ 2850fps.

A few weeks later my son went out hunting with me again after 1 1/2 hours of ratteling/grunting he scored a very respectable 3X4 coastal blacktail buck.

I now have Leupold VX3 2.5-8X36mm B&C reticle scopes on both barrels the 375H&H is now loaded with 250gr TTSX @ 2600fps.

With the camo synthetic stocks/22" barrels/Leupold scope base/rings/scopes/sling the 30-06 weighs in at 7.7lbs and the 375H&H is 7.5lbs.

I haven't measured the overall length of Prohunter with the 22" barrels but it is 4" shorter than my 20" barreled Rem 700 LSS in 30-06

I know they have a couple of used 24" 12g barrels, I'm looking for a new in box 28" pro hunter barrel. But thanks anyway
