Hi: Is it just me or does anyone else think these are the most overpriced gun on the market? The price of one of the extra barrels in the SIR catologue $400 to $420 and what a joke. I can buy a Ruger 77 in the same book for $732. I think the Rossi and NEF guns are much more in line with what a single should cost.I am going to post this on 24Hr campfire to see what our American neighbors think.

Better yet a Stevens 200 for around $330, and it's almost a switch barrel. I would love a TC, but with the cost of their barrels it just doesn't make sense and often almost just as much to get another gun.

I've just bought 2 this past christmas and paid 280$ each at S.I.R for the regular Encore blued bull barrel. The Pro Hunter are more expensive.

No offence but the Rossi and NEF are junk compared to the TC. (Especially the Rossi!)

Comparing the two "economy" brands to the Pro-Hunter is like comparing a $300. Stevens 200 to a $1400. Kimber. They all go "bang" but that is where the comparison ends.

You get what you pay for, I have an Encore with 4 barrels and have'nt looked back.
I'm now looking for a fully rifled 12ga bbl.
NEF,H&R and Rossi are NO comparison, You get what you pay for...hey I just said that:rolleyes:

A lot of people may beg to differ with the Stevens / Kimber logic:). Granted the fit and finish may not be exemplary, but the Kimber does not shoot 466% better.

I concur, hard to beat the value of the Stevens, NEF on the other hand... Shoots well but I've had lots of problems with the extractors...

It is all about quality rather than quantity.

If you buy into the theory that the 'McDonaldization" of society is a good thing than keep on buying the "Big Macs" of the gun world.

A decent quality firearm is remembered long after the cheap crap is long forgotten.

the point of a switch barrel is versatility and the convenience of being able to change cartridges in minutes.

Exactly!

And don't forget that the T/C barrels drop right in, no gunsmithing required. Extra barrels for the NEF and H&R guns require the receiver to be returned to the factory for fitting. I don't know if the service is even available to Canadians, and if it is the paperwork would be a pain. I can pick up a new T/C barrel, no paperwork or registration needed, and for all intents and purposes I have a new toy to play with, and I can reasonably expect excellent accuracy and reliability.

Pricing? Everything is relative. Try getting a new barrel for your Blaser R93. Sure, they're accurate, but I've never seen a new barrel for less than $1000!

one of these things is not like the other....one of these things just doesnt belong

despite being priced only $100 apart, two of the following images are actual guns... and one of them looks like a $150 Rossi toy.

personally i hate their styling. if i was going to drop that much money on a single shot, i would buy a Ruger #1 without hesitation. plus, $400 for a new barrel? F that, again i would just buy another gun.

Maybe some of us just can't buy another "new" gun like your Ruger#1 and to them it would be more feasible? :(
I agree the Ruger #1's are a nice single shot, not part of the topic mind you, but for me to own a 300WM, 308, 204 & a .50cal ml is easier and cheaper than to buy 4 Ruger #1's, Thats just my .02 cents ;)

if money is a concern then for some applications it is cheaper and more straightforward to just buy a Stevens 200. it costs less than a single barrel for the T/C.

dont get me wrong if the T/C barrels sold for $150 and the gun+barrel for $600 it would be a great deal. but $400 and $800+? haha, come on... what a racket. reminds me of print cartridges.

if you can afford to buy a T/C encore and 4 $400 barrels then you can afford to consolidate 1 of those calibers and buy 2 Ruger #1s and a Stevens 200. or one Ruger #1 and four Stevens. the barrel price is rediculous and the T/C encore looks cheap as hell.

not to mention the difference between a quality falling block and a simple hinge - the cheapest action on earth to produce - is night & day. also if you are buying several guns for different purposes i doubt that a hinge action single shot would be ideal for all of them... i certainly wouldnt want to be hunting dangerous game with them.

gawd well seeing I own a TC prohunter and can tell you hell will freeze over before your nef even comes close to the accuracy, as well barrels are NOT $400 I can get them for $250-$400 depending on what I want.

and if any other company that made interchangable barrels in long range BR calibers like 6.5x284/6.5x47/6mm BR/7mm BR as well as there big bore barrels in 375H&H/416 rigby/500S&W/338 win mag and the versitility of rimfire in 17hmr/17 mach 2/22 mag and 22 then theres the shotgun barrels 12/20 guage offerings and last but not least the muzzleloader oh and did I mention all encore pistol barrels fit as well lol :D

to bad your ruger No.1 didnt offer that with its crappy 500lb trigger and 35lbs of weight ;)

and your $300 stevens and NEF ???? I havent laffed that hard in a long time... what calibers do those 2 rifles come in??? LMMFAO @ U :slap:

OH and to top it all off what kind of warenty does ruger/nef/stevens offer I sure hope it would be the same as Thompson Center and offer a LIFETIME WARENTY lol NOT! :D:D

oh and its going grizz hunting in 3 weeks ;)

not many barrels over $300 either @ http://www.eabco.com/prohunter.htm
