The German Military Attache
The German Embassy
1 Waverly Street, Ottawa:
Dear Sir:
I am writing to you in order to report a possible weapons crime that may have been committed in Germany. I fear that someone in Germany may have fraudulently applied the mark of the Cologne Proof House.
Recently I bought a rifle that was imported into Canada from Germany. I bought the gun directly from Marstar, the Canadian importer. I read many complaints about these rifles and accordingly, I took my rifle to a professional gunsmith.
The gunsmith explained to me that my rifle was unsafe to shoot. The bolt had been welded and ground and the weapon had unsafe headspace. The gunsmith explained to me that in his professional opinion, the Cologne Proof House would never have approved this weapon in its current condition.
I have attached a photograph of the markings on the rifle and as you can see, it bears German markings and the apparent mark of the Cologne Proof House. I feel that I ought to bring this matter to your attention in the event that the markings of the Cologne Proof House have been forged.
I am willing to turn the weapon in question over to the German government in order to assist in any possible investigation.
Yours very truly,
Etc.
