I am a constituent of MR VAN LOAN I just called his local office and left a message If I get a reply tomorrow I will post it if I dont get a reply I will call again and then possibly drop by its only going to make my commute 10 mins longer .

Emailed Van Loan , my MP and Harper
hand written snail mail to follow

good Idea Smitty put it in Legal area or have mods to a sticky on opening page?

I had a feeling they would try this route. Mrsmitty- I feel your pain I have 15k tied up in semis. I will not allow anyone to steal my property.

I will phone van loan tomorrow.

My theory is that they think the registry will go, and don't want semis off the radar. Mass prohibitions is the only way to fix it as the cpc aren't doing oics right now.

Again canam, can I use exact details when talking to my mp or van loan, or do you want me to wait till after your meeting like marstar wanted?

Mr. Minister,

You government was elected in part through the votes of tens of thousands of law abiding firearms owners across Canada. Your party promised to remove the long gun registry (which is only being discussed through a private member's bill) and reform Canada's gun laws with some common sense.

Unfortunately you may have the government, but you do not have the bureaucracy. The Canada Firearms Centre, run by the RCMP, the Chief Firearms Officers (some provincial, most federal), and the technicians at the RCMP firearms lab are continuing to promote their antigun disarmament agenda.

Several recent examples illustrate my concerns:

Marstar, a firearms retailer and importer of repute has had their entire shipment of VZ-59 rifles reclassified to prohibited from restricted, despite an earlier determination of their class, prior to import. Now, in a time of recession, a law abiding Canadian gun owner is left holding a gross of unsaleable stock at the whim of the RCMP.

Canada Ammo, another established retailer and importer has had their entire order of T97 rifles held up by CBSA at the behest of the RCMP, despite the fact that the rifle by virtue of barrel length has been classified non-restricted. Across Canada, law abiding gun owners are waiting for their legal purchases to arrive, purchases that have already been paid for.

Mr. Minister, it is time for your government to fulfil its promises to the citizens of Canada...make Bill C-301 a government bill (in its original form, without the proposed amendments), derestrict the AR-15 rifle, de-prohibit the shortbarrel and .25/.32 calibre handguns, curtail the arbitrary abuses of power by the CFOs and the RCMP Firearms Lab, and remove the useless magazine size restrictions. Please advise me of your progress in dealing with these matters.

Thank you,

shootemup - while the VZ59 was affected, the shipment was primarily of VZ58 type rifles. Rifles, as opposed to a commercial version belt fed lmg.

This is the biggest abuse of police power I have seen in a while. They ok them for import, then reclassify at will.

Johnc- you said you know these guys, well you better tell them that they have stirred the ####ing hornets nest here. Class action suit? I will give a few hundred bucks to take these #######s to court.

Saying that "All semi Auto's can be made full auto" is not a false statement. If you consider that John Browning made his first semi auto from a Lever Action rifle that sort of shines a different light on things. The difference we must alude to is that it is against the law to convert a semi auto to a full auto. You would also need a full machine shop and have very good knowledge of exackly what you are doing or you could quite easily blow your head off. To say that "Anyone" can do something is a very broad statement to make and I have heard it before to which I have usually replied..."Prove it" or shut up!

FFS, you can make a machine gun out of a piece of railroad track with enough time and patience. Some might even consider that "easy" to do.

We need to prohibit railroads! Think of the children! If it saves just one life!

I am getting so sick and tired of this bull#### country.

Everyone stop the conjecture. There is no one more concerned over these rumours then Canada Ammo. They are the ones with $$$$$ riding on this. Do you think they recieved a container load from China on credit? Likely not.
They will sort this out to the most favorable outcome in their power.

All of these threads spreading rumour and conjecture are not helpful.

If you are concerned, write your MP!!

Oh we did/are.
Like Stevo said,
They think because you could in theory change a semi to a full auto they should be taken away, well first you have to break the law and do the change. then you are in possesion of an illegal gun. well no sh!t
should we ban cars because you could illegally drink and drive there fore commit a crime by illegally drinking and driving ? It makes no sense
I need another drink before the wife gets home.

Lets start another thread to let the rest of the community know so they can contact their MP's and Van Loan

There are 2 things that could happen.. neither of them are in any of your hands so stop whinning, you are starting to sound like a bunch of old women. Yes I have one on order and I hope it gets released soon so I can shoot the damn thing. So stop taking it out on Can-am hes one of us and if it wasnt for guys like him we wouldnt see these kinds of firearms in our hands.

ps IBTl :D

whining has one n

Thanks to all that have and will post samples of their letters. For some of us (me included) in somewhat of a panic mode, it's nice to have a template to follow as my putting pen to paper coherently is just not happening right now.

It is shoddy work practices versus due diligence and this is what we get a s**t storm of accusations and innuendo of RCMP conspiracies

Well, the whole Lever T 97 fiasco is a series of screw ups perpetrated by incompetence on the part of the RCMP and thier staff
Lever's initial paperwork for the first T-97's (restricteds) required assigning an FRT.

The initial T-97 was examined by a member of the RCMP in BC, who then sent pics and e-mails to the firearms lab in Ottawa. The rifle was NEVER seen by the firearms techs in Ottawa.

So FRT was issued and Lever brought in the rifles. So they acquire a sample from Lever, have it sent to Ottawa where it is disassembled... DAMN... it's converted from "full auto"... Lever pulls their inventory and the RCMP changes the FRT classification from restricted to Full Auto Prohibited.

Now we wait for the RCMP to make a decision on the T97 that Cam Am has brought in
