T97 Range Report Thread

I have also had a couple FTF's. It seems some mags have a little too much front to back play. This allows the front of the mag to drop down a few thousandths too far, allowing the bullet tip to ram into the flat just below the feed ramp instead of the feed ramp itself. I might try taking a dremel to mine and cutting mini "M4" ramps in it. i think it will work.

So, I stripped my rifle down a couple days ago and carefully took a chainsaw file to both sides of the feed ramp. You should be able to see the copper line up either side of the feed ramp where the bullet tip rides up the ramp. Right at the bottom of these "lines" is where you want to file your "mini M4 ramps". Easy does it. I took mine down maybe another 1/16th of an inch per side. In the first 100 rounds I shot through it, I had 3 FTF's. Since I made the mini M4 ramps I have just over 200 rounds throught it with no failures whatsoever!

Pics or it didn't happen! Seriously, I'd really appreciate some pics to get a better idea as to what needs to be done. Don't wanna start removing material in wrong places lol Thanks in advance

Sounds like the right kind of mod. Pics?

Took the t97 out on my back hunting yesterday for small game, worked great! It is now a hunting rifle lol.

One thing though, make sure you aim for the head haha.

Here is the best shot I have of it, after I filed the ramps.

This is a target that was shot at 100 yards off the bench. The 5 holes in the lower right are 50 grain Nosler Varmageddon. The 5 shots lower center are Hornady 75 grain steel match. Please keep in mind that the front sight post at this range is wider than the box I was shooting at!! I believe that with a compact optic or a scope these guns would prove more accurate than most of us believe.

And this is simply a random photo of a bunch of bullpups. Sadly, the AUG is a #### and click only.

The T97 doesnt look that ugly sitting with all other other bullpups...

It's the Restricted thing that keeps me from AR's. My local range is WAY too busy.

If you mean PCDHFC....that range is not that busy if you go at the right times.
There is also 3 more ranges around the Vancouver area ..but 2 of them are far.

Ok I guess it was a Thurs then. Raining too. I waited an hour to get a spot on the line. I'd rather just drive into the bush.

I experianced my first "squashed" cartridge yesterday using a grey ASC LAR 15 mag. This may be a stupid question but, even with the bullet shoved back into the casing the cartridge could still be live. I know this has happened to a few folks so how would you dispose of these rounds?

At the range we have containers for rounds that are probably live but we won't fire them for whatever reason. Another option is to just take it to the popo and let them worry about it. If it hasn't fired 30sec after the pin struck the primer, it's safe (be double-sure and wait for a full minute).

Beauty collection! I've always wanted a ps90!

Thanks for the advice but I don't have a range to shoot at, so no cans to dispose of hang fires or squashed shells...so maybe the local LEOs would be my option. The issue has only arisen with my LAR 15 mags...my 5 round pinned DH mags preform flawlessly. I just loaded up one of my LAR mags and one of my DH mags to see if there was any difference. You can immedately see why the LAR mag is having issues. The tip of the bullet sits 3/16" up from the front lip of the DH mag, with the shell clearing the lip nicely....on the LAR it is only up 1/16"and the shell sits down well below the lip. Also the tip is 3/16" away from the side of he DH mag....the LAR mag tapers in a bit more and there is only 1/8" clearance. It looks like the shells would actually contact the front lip of the LAR mag when being loaded into the chamber. The DH follower also sits level no mater where pressure is applied on it while the LAR follower is prone to point down and forward if pressure is put on the front half. I know there is a specific fix for this on the T97 (filing the ramp) and perhaps its not an issue in other rifles but personnally I may just stick to the 5 round mags.

Mirror mirror...

Wait a minute... This looks vaguely familiar... I have to say that you, Mr. 8 Ball, have excellent taste!

No range report for me yet, just returned from a two week gig in London. Looking forward to hitting the range next week to burn a few rounds through the T97, and sight in a couple other rifles for the upcoming deer season. Have to say that I quite like this little carbine. I honestly don't mind the controls, and with a couple of tweaks they'll be much more manageable.

Cheers
