T97 Range Report Thread

What distance do you guys site your guns iron sites in for? I used the "1" rear hole and sited it in at 25 yards, then when i shot a group at 100 i was shooting about 8 inchest high.

50m zero....That way you should be only around 3" high at 100m and around 3" low at 200m....Ive found this with my AR...T97 might be different.

I took my T97 out for the first time yesterday. Put 100 rounds of American Eagle FMJ through it without one hiccup at all. The rifle preformed flawlessly and was just plain fun to shoot. My gas setting was on 1 from the factory. Hardly any recoil and pretty good accuracy from 50 yards offhand....about 5 inch groupings, which is good for me. I was using DH mags and they worked fine in the gun, fed nicely and dropped free. I didn't even try the magazine that came with it as it looks fairly shoddy to me, the huge rivets and a bit of rust. I've yet to strip it but as others have said it seems fairly simple. A scope rail is on the way and I'm going to try a dot on it next. All in all I'm very happy with the rifle and can't wait to get it out again.
Mine seems to like xcr pistol mags but not the grey lar ones you are right about the shoddy looking mags it came with :p...took her out again after the polishing and she runs really smooth and shoots good too.
Can't wait for the rail :)

I am glad to hear you like yours as well!

I have also had a few fail to feeds with the bullet itself being pushed back into the brass. Like you said, gets better as you break in but still get the odd one after about 250 rounds through it. I've been shooting chinese surplus and AE. Me and a couple buddies got all our STANAG/AR mags together and gave my T97 a torture test. 21 mags with 5 round per mag, 105 rounds as fast as I could do them with the many mag changes but she handled it well FTF once only and was a smoking piece at the end for sure. Its definetly a higher end chinese weapon for sure. The polymer/plastic seems to be decent as well and everything looked good when stripped except a bit of the parkerizing/finish on the barrel was shoddy in places, light or discolored. Overall alright gun for the price and if you gotta own a bullpup why not this one.

Norinco ammo doesn't have the best crimp on them and that happens with a lot of them. Found that out doing double feed drills with my ar-15, every norinco 5.56 round would do that when force was put onto the bullet tip.

I was out at the range with Drifter Dave today, playing with his new 97.
It also had 3 FTF's that crunched the bullet back into the case.
Each time it was the 10 round LAR mag that did it.

My thoughts:

  • I didn't like the irons, mostly because of the square outside profile. With round/round rear peep sights, I've had no issues, but this one was screwing with my eyes.
  • Even with a low profile red dot on the accessory rail, it feels like it needs a cheek rest.
  • The magwell is not well enough relieved from the factory. I gave my magwell a bit of a bevel, while my other buddy did not. It was much more touchy to seat a magazine in his rifle than mine.
  • I experienced 1 failure in 100 rounds; a round that hit the breech nose first and collapsed the bullet inside the case (and sprayed unfired gunpowder everywhere). I may polish my feedramp as a precautionary measure.
  • The trigger is alright! It’s long, but light.
I also shot a video on disassembly in case anyone had issues with taking it apart.

I have also had a couple FTF's. It seems some mags have a little too much front to back play. This allows the front of the mag to drop down a few thousandths too far, allowing the bullet tip to ram into the flat just below the feed ramp instead of the feed ramp itself. I might try taking a dremel to mine and cutting mini "M4" ramps in it. i think it will work.

I just got some LAR 15 grey mags and couplers today. They fit nicely in the T97 and drop freely. I have'nt shot with them yet but I hope they work out. On another note....I'm torn as to whether I'll put a dot on the T97 or go with the irons. What are you guys doing?

Would an ak47 tritium front sight work on the T97? I'm assuming the front post threads are the same considering some people use the ak47 sight tool for adjustments. Have one ordered and on the way with the sighting tool...Could be an interesting inexpensive alternative to a red dot.

Not sure about the AK front sight post, but I think someone mentioned somewhere that an SKS fiber optic front sight post works. Is the SKS front sight post the same as an AK?
