Any of you running a tactical flash light on you AR, your thoughts on running one? I'm Looking for ideas on running one & was thinking of Surefire brand. just wondering what would work well?

thanks all

not on an AR (on my shotgun) But I have a Surefire 6P LED Defender on my Benelli shotgun.

It sits right in front of my off-hand thumb (1/2 inch reach).

The Defender model (as opposed to the regular 6P LED) has the click-on/off tail cap, so you don't have to keep your finger/thumb on the switch to hold it on.

Attached via a POS 1 inch scope ring to a piece of picatinny rail. works extremely well :D

I use this: M952XM07 on a throw lever from surefire. THis is a dedicated one, that can't really be used by hand.
Try looking at the fenix lights or other surefire lights, that allow you to use it by hand as well as weapons mountable.

Fenix TK10 - very nice!

If you don't do night shoots or use your rifle for HD its not worth the expense IMO. As for brands, Surefire is always good but comes at a high price. You should decide between a dedicated weapon light or a handheld before venturing any further. It helps to have an idea of what you expect out of your light for the weight and cost. Weapon lights are generally heavier, more expensive and offer greater throw than a hand held. There's pros and cons to both styles and you have to decide what works for you. I would strongly suggest an LED over an incandescent, better run times and impervious to recoil.

I use the Surefire M600B Scout light. I have it mounted at the 9 o clock rail position all the way forward using the standard surefire screw on mount that comes with the light.

I prefer a push button (not constant on though) to screwing around with a tape switch, I can easily hit it with my support hand index finger without modifying my grip much.

Ive also used the Surefire 6P and G2 in daniel defense offset mounts but I did not like it as much as a dedicated weaps light, and I had to shift my grip on the weapon in order to activate them.

Gents:

I must say I am very impressed with the Surfire X300. Was chatting wtih KevinB about this one and thogjt I would give it a try. I am realy pleased. An extremely small foot print for such bright light. No need for a tape switch, i use it with a High thumb grip. Its mounted on my 14.5 with a 12" rail.

Surefire X300 or Streamlight TLR-1 with a 12:00 mount. Versatile (use with a foregrip or without, straight or canted, left or right shoulder), functional, compact and lightweight. The switch on the Surefire is more rugged. Either way, you work the switch with your thumb.

Like this in front of the FSB:

Or like this in front of a BUIS:

Or save a lot of money by hockey-taping a Surefire G2 to your gun like this (it works, don't laugh):

Nice UBR stock:cool:!!! I have thus far found those to be unobtanium...:(

That's a six position mount made by Fenix. They sell those as well as bladder switches. Really cheap option for a weaponlight too. Bladder switch, TK11 R2 and the mount would only run you about $150.00

Rico X-9 Tactical with two navigation lights over the main flashlight(250 lumens). Love it.

I've got a Solarforce L600M - fairly compact for the amount of light it puts out (500+(!) lumens). Uses rechargeable 3.7V 18650 LiION batteries. Mounted here on my AR with cheap scope rings. Sells for under $150US with spare batteries and upgraded charger.

Hey Cory
I just wanted to point out so as to not confuse anyone, the mount shown is not actually made by Fenix! It just works well with their 1" lights ;)
