Tacticool Deer Rifle

:bangHead: I find it amusing/frustrating how many people misread... or didn't read at all... the purpose of this thread. Seems like as a CO in training he's required to at least be closely tied to a hunt once to get to know what it's like, not to be paid to hunt deer every day. In my mind using a beretta storm is like using a pistol with wilderness ATC, if .45 is such a stupid round, why are so many people clamoring to carry their medium caliber pistols around??? He has never mentioned that he doesn't have a rifle that is suited for the job, as he has said he is a predator hunter, he just wants a cool gun now, and is may be using the course as a reason for getting one, the one proviso being it has to be over 6mm. If he has a cash wise, but gun "stupid" wife, this could be the exact excuse he needs:p . He has stated he doesn't intend to shoot the deer because he's not interested. With three other people that want to do it, and possibly not all great shots, it's a possibility that his "inadequate" .45 is going to be called on to dispatch a rather messed up but not dead yet deer. I love the cgn community on the whole, but sometimes it annoys me how anyone who is construed as possibly having anything other than the one permitted mindset is flamed and attacked for it. I mean, I can agree that anti's suck the big one, but being narrow minded and grouchy about everything that could possibly be a problem doesn't exactly work either. Now that I've gone out and a limb...

My god... 9 pages condensed into one paragraph, now that's business!!!:D

Many options considered, bump for more suggestions and less flames...

Just to allow one to know what it's all about : I am looking for a centerfire rifle, 6mm or larger(.243 and up). Not a dedicated deer rifle, just something with a bore over 6mm.

There's always the HK SL7 in 7.62x51...

Of course the scope mount will probably cost you more then a M305, that's just details. You'll be the sharpest looking guy around

How about an FR-8?

It's short and nice and light so carrying it around would be a breeze. It's also chambered in 7.62x51 so the power is there.

It also looks rather mean :)

Another vote here for 458 cal just pick one. I would think that the big fat tube and the big fat bullets will turn heads more that any black gun you can bring on the course. Start with an Marlin 1895 GS.
