Tanfoglio 10mm Problems...(pics)

brutal...hopefully that is a defective individual gun and this is not reflective of these guns as a whole being garbage.

I've had the gun for about 3 months now. Last Friday was the first time out. Everything seemed normal, which was nice because I worried about the gun's ability to handle a diet of 10mm. The brass was ejecting pretty far but nothing major. Tore it down just an hour ago and found all that. I figure since I used handloaded ammo I am SOL on getting a refund or warranty repair.
why not? I have a gun that needs some help too, the dealer i got it from offered for me to send it back COD! He knows i used some reloads, but have only fired 120 rounds through, 100 factory, 20 reloads. I would be pissed if the first time i shot something it broke, and the answer was sorry bout your luck. Would be the last buck i spent with that dealer.

. ArmsEast was great to deal with hopefully they can help me out.They are pretty stiff just not max/nuke type ammo. Quite a bit hotter than any factory 10mm I have ever shot.
Factory 10mm is usually very weak. My plinker loads are hotter than any factory 10mm I've ever shot.
I don't have a Tanfoglio in 10 mm but I have had a Colt Delta Elite in 10 mm for many years and have shot maybe 2000 rounds through it, the vast majority reloads that made a power factor of 185, so not hot compared to some factory ammo I have. The time-pressure curve of a typical 10 mm load is quite different than any of the common calibers I know and my Colt throws the brass to a next postal code. Other shooters jokingly told me that the brass ejecting makes major factor in IPSC! Nevertheless, my Colt is still in pristine condition with no indication of any wear on the locking lugs, either those on the frame or on the barrel. The gun in the pictures has defective metal. If the loads were too hot for the locking time-curve, the result would be rounded or slightly "folded up" barrel locking lugs and severely rounded ones in the frame. Chipping of metal is an indication of poor steel composition or poor heat treatment. The gun is toast and cannot be argued that the handloads did it, metallurgy is at fault here!

I would tend to agree with you Miltiades.
I'm no metallurgist, but the striking thing about those pictures is that it looks nothing like normal wear; still seems new, yet it's chipped.
No honest merchant would deny your warranty based on firing handloads.

I have yet to shoot that factory 10mm box I have sitting but I was speaking of my general experience with other calibers factory ammo
You will probably find it very soft unless you habitually load extremely soft ammo.
Let us know how this warranty situation is resolved. Also what happens with any replacement gun you get. Hopefully this is an anomaly.

I think they had a bad batch on the 'wonder finish' guns. It looks brittle just from the pics.
As the vendor, we will assist B in obtaining EAA warranty support. My understanding in these cases is they replace the slide with the heavier, and non-WF, Elite model. You get a working two-tone in exchange.

We re very fortunate in the gun hobby community [or is gun life style style
] that when things go wrong, the dealers step in and do justice. In my experience over the years, I cannot find another industry that is so customer friendly, perhaps because most, if not all gun dealers, are also gun nuts like the rest of us. I had no doubt that Arms East will stand by their customer but it's always great to see this being so stated. My limited dealings with Arms East have been absolutely a first class experience!IMO this is exactly how this sort of situation should get dealt with...dealer steps up, gun goes back, dealer sorts the issue out with the manufacturer, customer gets working gun.
Not really clear on why EAA can't make their guns work with whatever finish they're using but obviously that can hardly be blamed on the dealer.
EAA is just the importer, you'd have to talk to Tanfoglio about their special process that turns otherwise suitable metal into a brittle mess.
