Tavor 7 .308 bullpup moves the needle

Here's one... let's say the 308 tavor is the same price as the SRS A1 recon 16"... (or vice versa), and the same quality/craftsmanship, which one would you take?

I'd be hard pressed to know which one I'd take.

On one side you have bolt action bullpup awesomeness... on the other side you have a semi auto bullpup awesomeness.

The SRS A2 covert with 18" 338 barrel, I'd pay the extra

Cool, but are those other platforms reliable under gritty field conditions, and are they able to remain so in circumstances where relatively rapid fire heats the gun up?

Other than laying down supressing fire on squirrels from the kids sand box at the cabin, it can't see myself being too concerned as I won't be going to war in a foreign country with my civilian rifles any time soon

 yup!

I wounder if and pretty much expect a 308 version of IWI's newest ARAD to come out in the near future. That would be my guess as to what they will use as a 308 DM. Who knows.

My personal speculation is that ARAD is a response to the call from the higher end special units within the IDF, who are long time users of the 11.5" Colt carbines. For operators who are at the higher end of skill level, AR is a much better perform, especially if they have access to the higher end NV and LAD from the US.

The same thing with the Australian where everyone got the aussie aug, while the 4RAR commandos and SAS got M4 and HK416.

There is no denial AR is a more accurate platform, but making both an accurate, reasonable weighted and reliable large frame AR capable of exploiting the higher rate of fire in semi auto is no easy task. Early SR25 was not reliable, and SIG 716 was struggling for years through many iterations. I will think IWI will probably need quite some time to figure this out because they don't really have any past experience /portfolio in building "precision" platform from the ground up.

But I won't be surprised to see 16" ARAD get into infantry battalions to replace X95 with an ACOG as a squad/section "DMR" in 5.56 much earlier.
