Well, if the original picatinny rail (from the Tavors of the 2nd batch) will be replaced,if it has to fit different types of optics , i don't even mention it, and i am not even sure it's possible .
Everybody wants it to co-witness, but what it has to co-witness if there is no rear sight ?????? can you tell me?
then there will be no more rear sight,
as it will be gone together with the rail.
So, for starters, the gun needs a new rear BUIS (or rear sight of some kind).
One solution is to install a rear BUIS designed for AR15 on the new picatinny rail.
It would look something like that:
If the height of the rail is right,
the rear BUIS will work with the original Tavor front sight.
To zero the sights, the original Tavor front sight can be adjusted
for both elevation and windage,
and even the front post can be changed with an AR15 front post
(the AR15 front post can be had in different heights).
As a side note, for personal use, on many occasions I have modified the rear peep sight
of a BUIS by making a cut in the upper area of the diopter
and I ended up with a "U-notch" rear sight that
can be used for “holding” much better than a peep sight can.
As you know, different EoTech models can have different heights,
and for Aimpoint or other red dot systems
you can have mounts of different heights.
So, if the red dot has the right height, it will co-witness with the iron sights.
As a general rule, if you use a rear BUIS that is designed to work on AR15's,
then you have to use a red dot system that is designed to work on AR15's as well.
So, you have to do your homework
and find out exactly what red dot system (or mount) is designed
to work on AR15 flat tops
and exactly where in the window (what height from the bottom of the window)
you will see the iron sights if that particular red-dot/ mount will be assembled
on an AR15 flat top (because you use an AR15 rear BUIS):
The rail is long enough so you can use a magnifier (if permitted by the rear BUIS).
But if the rear BUIS is of the non-folding type (or if it is too long),
then it will be in the way of the magnifier piece.
This is a LMT non-folding rear BUIS:
I will have more answers and test results. in a couple of days.
