Tavor FAQ (updated 08 December, 2008)

Hey guys, I managed to do it and you are right TwoTone, there was not enough leverage on a straight screwdriver, so I ended up placing a metal rod through the screwdrivers handle (turned it into a T) which has a hole in it and applied extra hard force until it finally twisted!

Appreciate all replies, thanks guys! :)

My apologies if this has been covered before;
But what compensators are folks running on their Tavors? I was concerned about the AR designed comps venting the gas in a non-complementary direction...

Is the chamber in the Tavor actually .223 or 5.56 labelled .223 for import? I am just curious if anyone is actually using 5.56 or is the chamber .223 and not safe to run 5.56?

Well I am asking because I got a deal on PMC - Greentips (556) but they will not seat in the chamber.

If they won't (which I am fairly confident they will not in my Tavor) that I will need to buy another rifle in .556 to use these rounds or trade them.

Okay, help me out here. I recently bought a Tavor and my trigger pack looks like this:

notice the push-type spring in the top centre.

This is different from the "Israeli Trigger Pack" described in the Tavor FAQ with a pull type spring on the side (instead of the middle). However I have seen SAR-21 and TAR-21 trigger jobs on youtube and they both have that pull-type spring on the right side. Frankly I can't see a difference even though people are saying the SAR-21 trigger pack is different than the TAR-21.

Now I am bringing this up because there's no talk in the FAQ. Incidentally I've changed that centre spring to a light one; previously there was a little bit of grittiness, but now there is NO grittiness and there is a clean break. I would judge the trigger pull at about 6lbs. The lighter spring would not have done much to the trigger pull - it would have reduced it about 1-2lbs at most. So it looks like stock Tavor triggers are now 7-8lbs.

My recoil spring cannot be removed (like the US version) also.

Comments?

Are current gen Canadian version tavor barrels chrome lined? Does anyone know for sure? I also noticed American tavors have "made in Israel" stamped on the barrel, yet there is no such markings on Canadian version???

I was able to run about 20 rounds of PMC green tip 62 gr. through my tavor tonight without issue. Point of impact was a little off from the norc ammo I sighted it in with but that's to be expected. What rifle didn't the 5.56 chamber in?

If I understand you correctly - your trigger group doesn't have that secondary 'reset spring' that the cool kids are removing? If so - mine was the same way - no extra reset spring.

Not that I care; as soon as the Timneys come out I am scrapping the stock trigger group.

I think I was having a mag issues. I since purchased 10 more mags and they all feed and camber 556. I had one old mag which I was working with which I think is the culprit. I have since fired the PMC greentips without issues.
